BBFC
According to BBFC.co.uk a 15 :
Should not have any offensive language or behaviour in ways to describe certain people or
races.
Allows strong threat and menace in a horror genre however it mustn’t be sadistic in anyway.
It shouldn’t dwell too much on dangerous behaviour which could lead to promotion of the
dangerous behaviour as well
There may be frequent use of strong language, however the strongest language shouldn’t be
used unless the circumstance or context in justifiable
Nudity is allowed in a sexual context, such as being top less but with a bra. Sexual activity is
allowed but it must not be dwelled on or too graphic.
Violence is allowed but pain or injury shouldn’t be dwelled upon or emphasised too much.
Gory images aren’t allowed as they are too graphic for a 15 year old.
These don’t really affect our production too much really. There wasn’t going to be any sexual scenes or
nudity in anyway. We aren’t using any offensive language because we want to keep the basis of a Fairy
Tale and the innocence basics and if we used offensive language or nudity then it would drift away too
much from the fairy tale basis. The only weapon we are going to have is the vampire’s teeth which
aren’t really a weapon. There isn’t going to be any sadistic violence or horror in any way because as I
said we want to keep the basis of the fairy tale childhood like feeling. The only thing is some levels of
gore and violence yes it wont be sadistic but we will have to be careful in how we portray the violence
and gore to get the point over that the Prince has been killed by the Step Mother who is a Vampire.
Why we chose a 15
We chose a 15 because an 18 allows more in these categories, basically they allow what a 15 isn't
allowed, which we don't really want, we want violence but not over used. Also it would take away the
fairy tale basis. A 12 doesn't really allow much violence or dangerous behaviour. We don't want our
opening to be a 12 because we want a bit of violence to enhance the thriller and dark side to a fairy tale
as it will make there more of a contrast to an ordinary fairy tale story. A 15 lets us have the horror to
go with the thriller and darker side to a Fairy Tale but doesn’t let it drift away from the Fairy Tale basis
to our idea.
