The population of Montgomery County, Maryland grew from 757,027 to 873,341 between 1990 and 2000, an increase of 116,314 people or 15.4%. The white population decreased by 14,916 but remained the largest group, making up 64.8% of residents in 2000. The black population increased most significantly, rising by 39,989 people to make up 15.1% of the county. The Asian and Asian-American populations also increased substantially, with the Asian Indian population nearly doubling.
