NEW TRENDS IN CONCRETE

TECHNOLOGY.
There are many new technologies and materials
have come forward in day to day progress in
concrete technology.

The new technology are as fallows,

New technologies :
Utilization of materials-
The new construction material concrete products
and demolition wastes and lime production waste
New construction materials were developed and
patented in Brazil, based on concrete production and
demolition wastes mixed with lime production waste.
The main objective of this research is to utilize these
two types of industrial wastes on as large a scale as
possible as a new raw materials for the production of
concrete.
concrete waste with the lime component, which led to the
growth of new amorphous and crystalline calcium hydro
-silicates such as Tobermorite, Afwillite and the CSH mineral
group. Although this research does not include an economic
feasibility study, the zero cost of these novel raw materials
for concrete is self-explanatory. However, the main
advantage expected from these materials is the
environmental conservation they afford, represented by the
use of concrete production and demolition wastes and lime
production waste.
Fire technology :-
New construction techniques and the growing number of
building materials have resulted in the modification of old fire
test methods and the development of new ones. Many
otherwise useful materials have failed the highly restrictive no
combustibility test that is in use today. The author suggests
that tests more basis than the full scale fire endurance tests
must be devised to more accurately evaluate the effects of
combustible materials under fire conditions.
New Engineering Standards - Develop comprehensive
standards for the basic building elements required for rapid-
erection approaches. Develop material, component, and
system standards for accurate and unambiguous description
and specifications for effective communication of needs
between engineering, procurement, and site management.

Material Utilization Simulation Models - Develop simulation

tools for predictive material placement and utilization
strategies and for evaluating alternate design scenarios during
the project engineering phase.

Improved Testing Methods and Approvals - Refine testing

methods and approval processes to accelerate the
development of new materials and components and provide
materials databases to support the implementation of model-
based design
Improved Materials Engineering
Develop affordable, smart materials and components that support
the vision of rapid-erecting and self-erecting facilities; reduce the
cost to manufacture and fabricate materials and components; and
reduce the cost to place, join, and install them with high labor
productivity, zero waste, and zero rework.
RECENT PROGRESS IN RESEARCH ON AND CODE
EVALUATION OF CONCRETE CREEP AND SHRINKAGE
IN JAPAN

This paper introduces the recent state of research on creep and

shrinkage of concrete in Japan, focusing on several unique
advances: new prediction models in design code, development of
database, autogenous shrinkage and prediction of cracks in
structural members. New prediction models for creep and
shrinkage of concrete, which can be applied to high-strength
concrete, were adopted in the JSCE standard specification for
concrete structures in 2002. A creep and shrinkage database was
developed and made available for international use. Thus Japanese
researchers can be said to have made important contributions to
research on autogenous shrinkage of concrete in the last ten years.
Durability of concrete structures is seriously compromised by
cracking in early age concrete, particularly in high-strength or
massive concrete structures. Since early age cracking is
influenced by various highly interrelated factors that affect the
hydration process and stress/strain development, its behavior
is highly complex and no rational methodologies for its control
have yet been established. On the other hand, demands for
high strength and massive concrete structures in modern cities
are ever growing, regardless of the many durability problems.
More comprehensive methodologies for the control are
therefore essential to ensure sustainability of such structures.
This report reviews state-of-the-art research on mechanisms
that cause complex cracking phenomena and newly developed
methodologies to control early age cracking.
Testing of materials is very important one of them is NDT
method.

No destructive testing on concrete are said so because these

test can be performed in-situ , as well as in laboratory without
destructing the concrete member and results about strength
and durability can be obtained .
NDT method are simple to perform but the analysis and inter
presentation of test results are not so easy .
