This document describes an experiment to measure a base quantity and derive another quantity from it. The objectives are to manipulate a measured quantity to find a derivative quantity. The experiment involves measuring the volume and density of various objects using tools like a wooden block, glass rod, micrometer screw gauge, vernier callipers, balance, and meter rules. The document defines base quantities like length, mass, time, and temperature that cannot be defined in terms of other quantities. It also defines derived quantities like density, volume, and velocity that are derived from combinations of base quantities.

EXPERIMENT 1: BASE QUANTITY AND ITS DERIVATIVE

OBJECTIVES :
TO MANIPULATED THE MEASURED QUANTITY IN FINDING THE
DERIVATIVE QUANTITY.

MAIN IDEA :

o THE STUDY OF PHYSICS WILL HELP US TO UNDERSTAND OUR

SURROUNDING BETTER AND LET US LIVE OUR LIFE MORE
MEANING FULL IN THIS TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED ERA.
APPARATUS

 WOODEN BLOCK

 GLASS ROD

 MICROMETER SCREW GAUGE

 VERNIER CALLIPERS

 BALANCE

 METER RULES
ANSWERING THE QUESTION

1. What are the measure quantities in the experiment above?

 Sensitivity of a measuring instrument is its ability to detect a small

change in the quantity to be measure.
 Consistency of an instrument is the ability of the instrument to
measure a quantity with little or no deviation among measurement.
 An error is the difference between the measured value and actual value
 Systematic error may be due to the error in calibration of instrument.
Another cause of systematic error is he zero error.

2. State the derivative quantity obtained from the experiment?

 Volume
 Density

3. Explain according to your understanding from the experiment above, the

meaning of base quantity and the derived quantity.

 Base quantity – physical quantities that cannot be defined in

terms of other quantities

Length Mass Time Temperature Electric

current
 Derived quantity – physical quantites derived from combinations
of base quantities through multiplication or division or both

velocity density

4. Specify another three base quantities and its unit according

Length Metre
Mass Kilogram
Temperature kelvin

5. Convert he unit of density calculated above( g/cm ¿ to kg/m according to

the appropriate factor
