Assignment Sheet: Vocabulary 9 : Due 5 (a) or 6 (b) January

For Vocabulary unit 9, you will create a vocabulary unit based on the words
you have seen and decided to introduce to your vocabulary (or move from
your passively-known vocabulary to your active vocabulary, as the case may
be) as we have been reading To Kill A Mockingbird. Your vocabulary unit will
consist of a packet designed to replicate a complete vocabulary unit, as
assigned by Mr. Tooley. It will include the following:

 10-Word Contextual Redefinition sheet (20 points, classwork)

 At least 5 nonverbal representations of a word. (Select a picture

that represents one of the vocabulary words and write a sentence
describing the picture that uses the vocabulary word and provides a
context clue about the word’s meaning.) (5 points each, homework)

 A vocabulary test based on the 10 words. Your test should have 5

sections and 25 questions, in the following format:

o Definition – Write the vocabulary word next to its meaning

o Synonyms – write the vocabulary word next to the words that

mean most nearly the same

o Antonyms – Write the vocabulary word next to the words that

mean most nearly the opposite

o Choosing the right words – Select the vocabulary word that best
completes the sentence. (Write a sentence and include 2
possible choices of vocabulary words.)

o Completing the sentence – Fill in the blank using one of the

vocabulary words.

There should be 2 copies of the test: 1 blank and one completed by

you. (100 points, completed test, assessment; 25 points blank test,
homework.)

 Semantic maps for each word used on the test. (5 points each)

 Put the entire project in a report cover and submit by the due date.

The vocabulary unit should be complete by 5 (a) or 6 (b) January 2011

A few additional notes:

 Words I have already used will not count.
