Personality and Motivation

 Introduction :-

The word “perfume” comes from the Latin “per fumum,” which means “through smoke.”
Perfumes are a mix of essential oils, aroma compounds and alcohol, traditionally used
to mask body odor, since people bathed infrequently back then. The fragrance industry
actually started in Italy but was developed in France by Queen Catherine de
Medici.Fragrances have different strengths, ranging from the strongest, perfume extract
(composed of 20 to 40 percent aroma compounds), to the lightest and most dilute, eau
de fraiche (“fresh water,” with one to three percent fragrance oil).

Perfume has been used over the centuries to inspire,

delight, and arouse people’s sense of smell and thereby other desires of the human
body. People all over the world have certain scents that attract them or will turn them
completely off. Many people have had the experience of walking into a room where
someone is wearing a strong smelling perfume and they have either gotten a headache
and felt nauseous or have been drawn in by the pleasantness. It is important for
anyone who uses scents to understand the proper use of perfume and be able to apply
it to their own application. The Proper ScentA very basic thing to understand about the
use of perfume is that all scents are not good for all people. Even the most expensive
products will only smell their best on certain people. A person needs to take time to
explore what scents are best with their body chemistry and with the desired effect of the
perfume. If the scent is meant to be a pleasant smell for day to day use it will be
completely different that a scent that is meant to seduce a lover. Perfume counters at
department stores are great places to smell and sample different products before
buying them. A person should take the time to smell all types in the bottles and find
scents that are pleasing to them. Then the person will want to try each type one at a
time over several days to see which perfume blends best with their body. One thing
that can help to make this process go faster is to learn to identify the category of each
label. Some scents are floral, some are woody, some are blended and so forth. By
determining what type of scent a person wants and defining what the different perfumes
are a person can quickly eliminate many products. A professional in the industry that
works at a fine perfume shop can be very helpful in this venture.

Personality and Motivation

 Objectives :-

 To identify Personality Traits

 To identify the motivation factor to buy Perfume

 To determine and reflect how a person responds to his or her environment

 To identify the right Perfume

 Methodlogy:-

A company must understand customer requirements and provide products,

which impart higher value for their money. As the market place is becoming
more and more competitive and the environment more and more volatile,
organizations are fighting hard to attract and retain customers.

The research is based on primary survey, generation of enquiries, discussions

with colleagues, reading research books, proposals, journals and fundamental,
technical analysis. It helped in understanding Personality and Motivation of
consumer .The consumption pattern, factors influencing their demand & supply
position. Analyzing the needs and requirements of the customers.

Personality type can be determined by many factors. You can approach it the
scientific way, by testing yourself and having a psychologist analysis you. A
personality test is rather simple. By answering a few questions about your likes
and dislikes and where you would like to go in life, a professional can give you a
report detailing the type of personality you have.

Like personality trait , Individual Motivation is also qualitative in nature . This

means that like personality trait , one 's individual motivation can not be weighed
by using some physical instrument . Rather , a number of indicators are used to
determine the level of motivation of an individual . However , one of the greatest

disadvantages of such indicators is that these indicators are highly subjective to

human interpretation , thus its results may vary from an individual to another .

 Observations of Personality:-
Personality is defined as the inner psychological characteristics that both determine
and reflect how a person responds to his or her environment. Perfumes are as much a
part of your fashion style as the accessories you choose. And like your fashion choices,
the fragrance you choose says a lot about your personality.Perfume makes a woman
utterly feminine. Each type of scent echoes a certain mood or personality. Here are the
types of scents and the characteristics they emit to help you choose what are most
suitable for your needs and lifestyle.

Perfume, like any other grooming product, is a part of your personality. It adds
character and chutzpah to your overall personality and creates a unique identity. In fact,
people can recognize you with the scent of your smell. It leaves a trail of fragrance
wherever you pass and is one of the most attractive things you can wear on your body.
Just as good makeup, hairdo, and clothes can catch the attention of an onlooker,
similarly, your fragrance, too, can have a scintillating effect. Wearing perfume that
matches you is like wearing your attitude. Indeed perfume can say more than words.
Different types of fragrances suit different moods. The following are some of the tips to
find or choose the
right perfume .

1 .Consider your personality. When choosing perfume or scent, think like the smell
emphasizes your individuality. You are happy, sporty type? Go for a clean, citrus and
some shower fresh smell. You are romantic and feminine? Maybe the spirits with a soft,
floral scent of vanilla and can be satisfied. You outgoing and adventurous? Then the
scent with notes of spices could be added to outgoing personality. Regardless of your
personality, there is the smell among many, which certainly fit.

2.Consider a body chemistry. Some flavors of the spirits to get dropped, when mixed
with the natural body odor. To avoid this, find a perfume that respect for the acidity of
the skin and body. You can do this by first testing a small amount of perfume on the
warm place of your body (behind the ears, wrists) and seeing if the smell is sweet and
fragrant in a few minutes of wearing. If it turns sour or spicy while you wear it, the smell
can not add the pH level of your body. Make sure you get the right scent suitable acidity
of your body, in order to avoid becoming rancid flavor in you.

3. Consider your activities. After examining your body chemistry, think about their
activities. Match certain scents perfume with a specific activity. For the casual day, wear
clean and light scent. For an intimate dinner with a special someone, think velvety and
romantic fragrance to help compliment the mood. For everyday use, for your signature
scent, whether in office or do the usual city runabout.

4.Consider the quality of spirits. Quality perfumes have the lowest alcohol content
and, therefore, longer. When selecting perfume that suits you, keep in mind that the
higher the alcohol content, the less time wearing so far. In order to receive the spirits,
which is more of a look at those called “Eau De Parfum” over the “toilet water”.

 Analysis of Motives:-
According to W.I. Stanton: "A motive can be defined as a drive or an urge for which an
individual seeks satisfaction. It becomes a buying motive when the individual seeks
satisfaction through the purchase of something. A prospect usually has more than one
reason for purchasing product. It is our job to uncover those reasons and continuously
reinforce them throughout the sales process.

Testing - Always test the fragrance on your skin, as it may smell different on a testing
paper. Never try more than two fragrances at a time. If you try more, you will simply get
confused and won't be able to make a decision. If at all you wish to try more than two
fragrances at a time, then do not smell them one after the other. Smell coffee beans in
between to ensure that you do not get confused with the fragrance.

Seasons - Perfume attracts if it is worn according to the weather conditions and your
mood. A perfume that matches you should not be worn everyday. Add variety to your
collection of fragrances. Different seasons require different types of scents. The way
you dress up differently for different occasions, similarly,
your perfume, too, should be different. You will not wear
your beach clothes to an evening party, right? The same
rule applies here as well. Remember that hot and humid
weather condition will lead to evaporation of the scent.
However, cool weather condition will strengthen the scent.
Humidity will intensify the fragrance.

Brand perfume - If you seek quality, then you must opt for a good brand. A reputed
brand means that the perfume stays lo nger
and will not leave you embarrassed.

1. People usually associate events, happenings, happy memories, places and many
other things to scents. Whenever they happen to sniff a specific aroma, the things
that their brains have associated with that specific scent immediately comes to their
minds. Scents have long been known to possess that specific power over people.
This was blamed on our limbic system which supports functions that are related to
memory, your behavior, and also your emotions. Because of this, a lot of people
purchase perfumes with scents that remind them of certain events that they want to
be reminded of.

2. Most people want to appeal to the limbic systems of others by wearing perfumes
that demand the attention and extract pleasure from others. This is why most
perfumes available in the market are those that come in floral or fruity scents. This is
because sniffing these kinds of scents makes one think of beautiful flowers, sweet
fruits,and other pleasant things.

3. Scents have also been known to create an atmosphere or mood according to the
aroma it emits. People buy perfumes that elicit exciting and happy feelings
whenever they happen to smell these scents. This principle is the very same reason
why people often splurge on aromatic oils and candles. Certain types of scents
create and set a wonderful mood, and many people spend just to reach their
desired mood.

4. Smelling good has always been associated with being clean. Smelling nice tells

others that you are hygienic and clean. This is also why most detergents, house
cleaners and other cleansing agents are scented with fresh and clean-smelling
fragrances. They make rooms and amenities feel and appear cleaner.

5. There are also those who wish to hide odor that may be present on their bodies.
Spraying and dabbing on perfumes and colognes is one of the best methods known
to hide one's unpleasant odor. Likewise, people cringe at bad odor and resort to any
way they can think of to remove foul smelling odor. This is why air fresheners,
ionizers and household freshening sprays are quite marketable. They give people a
chance to eliminate any foul odor within their smelling reach.

6. There are also several known scents that are quite effective as aphrodisiacs.
Those who wish to awaken a sensual mood in their respective partners may now
skip the aphrodisiac foods and turn to perfumes for help.

Perfumes and fragrances have found many uses in

our lives and the ones listed above are just a few of those purposes that makes us
aware that it really is quite useful to have a bottle of sweet, smelling essence
stashed somewhere within reach. Fragrance is indeed enticing but this is one
seductress we sure wouldn't mind giving into. Using perfume to heal, make us feel
good, and improve relationships between the sexes are the new frontiers being
explored by the industry. The sense of smell is considered a right brain activity,
which rules emotions, memory, and creativity. Aromatherapy--smelling oils and
fragrances to cure physical and emotional problems--is being revived to help
balance hormonal and body energy. The theory behind aromatherapy states that
using essential oils helps bolster the immune system when inhaled or applied
topically. Smelling sweet smells also affects one's mood and can be used as a form
of psychotherapy.

More research is being conducted to synthesize human perfume--that is, the body
scents we produce to attract or repel other humans. Humans, like other mammals,

release pheromones to attract the opposite sex. New perfumes are being created to
duplicate the effect of pheromones and stimulate sexual arousal receptors in the
brain. Not only may the perfumes of the future help people cover up "bad" smells,
they could improve their physical and emotional well-being as well as their sex lives.

 Conclusion:-
When a proper scent has been found, the person should understand how best to apply
the product. It is important that a perfume be subtle and not overpowering. Some scents
work well when sprayed over the hair allowing them to be more true to the original scent
and not mixed with the perspiration and musk of the individual. It is found that personnel
with extrinsic motivation inclination is positively related with the extraversion in
personality trait; however, personnel with intrinsic motivation inclination is not positively

related with the introversion in personality traits.

A perfume that matches you and your personality will make a lot of difference to your
appearance. When buying a perfume, you must be careful with the packaging. Do not
accept tampered packing; ask for a properly packed product. Another important aspect
is the expiry date. Check the date before you make the purchase. Ideally, a fragrance
will stay good up to three years from the date it is bottled.

Perfume expert who thought that the personality traits of an individual were very closely
related to the fragrances they chose. He believed that people who were introverted had
a greater response to smells than extroverted people did. This caused the introverted
individuals to lean toward oriental fragrances instead of a fruity or floral perfume.

An individual favorite fragrance choice was related closely to what their favorite color is.
They stated that people who predominantly liked bright colors such as pink, orange and
yellow would be more apt to lean towards fruity or floral scents while people who

preferred darker, richer colors such as red, green or purple would be more liable to be
attracted to warm, oriental fragrances.

People wear fragrances for a number of reasons such as to be attractive, seductive to

improve their mood to feel refreshed and even as a self-confidence improver. The most
important goal should be to pick a personal fragrance that meets your individual needs.
Your scent of choice should always be a compliment to your personality, never
something overbearing.
