RBS 3418 (MU)
Unit Weight
Fully equipped (with Rear Connection Field and bracket) 20.5 kg (with PDU) / 19.8 kg (with PSU)
Rear Connection Field (4U) 2.5 kg
Front Connection Field (2U) 2 kg
Support bracket 1.7 kg
In the case of an MU with a Rear Connection Field, a minimum space of 1,000 mm is recommended both in front of and behind the
rack to provide sufficient working space. Between two back-to-back 19-inch racks mounted with Rear Connection Fields, a minimum
distance of 1,000 mm must be kept to have adequate space to work on the Connection Field side.
In the case of an MU with a Front Connection Field, a minimum space of 1,000 mm is recommended in front of the rack, while at
least 100 mm free space is required behind the rack for the outgoing airflow. Between two back-to-back 19-inch racks mounted with
Front Connection Field, a minimum distance of 100 mm is needed.
In a rack with closed doors, the distance between the 19-inch mounting bars and the inner surface of the door must be at least 100
mm. In a rack with no doors (or open doors), a distance of 50 mm must be kept from the mounting bars for the cables.
Note:
If the door of a 19-inch rack is closed, sufficient airflow must be allowed through the rack for the proper cooling of the MU.
For one MU the maximum required airflow is 180 m /h, the typical value is 70 m /h.
If the MU is required to fulfill earthquake zone requirements, then the space between a wall and a rack must be at least 75 mm and the
space between racks at least 150 mm.
Allow a minimum free space of one meter in front of the RRU to avoid obstructing the door and to ensure sufficient
working space. RRUs equipped with a Fan Unit also need this space for proper ventilation.
Pole mounting
The RRU has to be mounted vertically, close to the antenna. The pole diameters are indicated in the following table.
To ensure adequate airflow between the units, allow a minimum of 700 mm of free space above and below each RRU.
Note:
To prevent hot air from one RRU heating the intake air of another RRU, RRUs must never be installed above one another.
Allow a minimum free space of one meter in front of the RRU to ensure sufficient working space. RRUs equipped with a Fan Unit
also need this space for proper ventilation.
Note:
The number of RRU22 AC units supported by a mounting bracket is limited to two.

The power interface is available on the front part of the Connection Field as a screw terminal, and it is connected to the power
interface on the MU subrack through an external cable from the front part of the Connection Field.
The power cables from the mains can be connected to the screw terminals on the Connection Field only after removing the metal
cover. The interface accepts cables from the mains with a cross-sectional area of up to 4 mm , and a minimum of 2.5 mm is
recommended. Only multistrand cables must be used.
The recommendations given in this section are based on peak power consumption and gives no information on power consumption
during normal operation.
For power consumption during traffic, refer to Section 9.2, where the typical and high-load power consumption are given for each
configuration.
If the recommended fuse size is not available a larger size must be used.
The recommended melting fuse type is am-gL-gG in accordance with IEC 60269-1. Circuit breakers must comply with at least Curve
3 (DC) tripping characteristics for indoor equipment, in accordance with IEC 609 34.
For details about cable cross-sectional areas, please refer to Section 8.4.
The table below shows the fuse or circuit breaker recommendation for the MU of the RBS.
Table 14 Fuse Recommendation for the MU
RBS Type Fuse Rating Recommended for Reliable Maximum Allowed Fuse Rating (A)(2)
Operation (A)(1)
MU 8A 15 A
(1) The recommended fuse rating corresponds to peak load. For an RBS with an internal fuse or circuit breaker selectivity is
granted.
(2) An absolute maximum fuse class in accordance with RBS design restrictions.
(3) The product is equipped with overvoltage protection, but there is no built-in SPD.
This section contains the power consumption figures for the MU of the RBS. The power consumption figures shown in this section
refer to normal operation during traffic.
Both typical and high-load power consumption values are based on an ambient temperature of 25°C. Optional equipment is not
included.
The table below shows the power consumption values for the MU of the RBS. The values refer to -48 V power supply, +24 V power
supply and 100~250 V AC power supply..
Table 15 Typical and High-Load Power Consumption
(1)
Unit Typical Power Consumption High-Load Power Consumption
MU with PDU 0.10 kW 0.13 kW
MU with PSU 0.12 kW 0.17 kW
The power supply voltage for both the RRU11 and RRU22 is - 48 V DC. The RRU22 AC also accepts 100-250 V AC. The power
supply requirements are described in Table 23 and Table 24.
The recommendations given in this section are based on peak power consumption and gives no information on power consumption
during normal operation.
For power consumption during traffic, refer to Table 26, where typical and high-load power consumptions are given for each
configuration.
As a feature, the RRU has a built-in Class 1 (Type 1) Surge Protection Device (SPD) to protect the equipment in case of lightning and
network transients. The recommended fuse or circuit breaker rating is therefore dimensioned for not tripping the fuse or circuit
breaker in case of SPD operation. Only if it is accepted that fuses or circuit breakers trip in such situations, the minimum fuse rating
could be taken into account.
The recommended melting fuse type is am-gL-gG in accordance with IEC 60269-1. Circuit breakers must comply with at least Curve
3 tripping characteristics, in accordance with IEC 609 34.
For details about cable cross-sectional areas, please refer to Section 7.4, Section 7.7.1, and Section 7.7.2.
The table below shows the fuse or circuit breaker recommendations.
Table 25 RRU Fuse/Circuit Breaker Recommendations
Unit Minimum Fuse Rating [A](1) Fuse Rating Recommended for Maximum Allowed Fuse
Reliable Operation [A](2) Rating [A](3)
(1) The minimum fuse rating corresponds to peak load typically occurring during initial battery charging. For an RBS with an
internal fuse or circuit breaker, selectivity is granted. These fuse sizes can only be used if it is acceptable that fuses trip due to
lightning or network transients.
(2) The recommended fuse ratings take into account that external fuses are not to trip due to lightning or network transients.
(3) The absolute maximum fuse class in accordance with RBS design restrictions.
(4) If a circuit breaker is used, 40 A Curve 3 is applicable.
The power consumption figures shown in this section refer to normal operation during traffic.
Typical power consumption values are based on a realistic, typical traffic distribution that corresponds to an average output
power of 40%. High-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) is not taken into account. Cooling conditions are based on an annual
temperature distribution for the Frankfurt (Germany) climate zone. Optional equipment is not included.
The high-load power consumption values corresponds to 100% of the maximum output power. Cooling conditions are based on a
statistical maximum temperature for the Frankfurt (Germany) climate zone (+30°C).Optional equipment is not included.
The table below shows the power consumption values for the RRUs.
