This document contains annual data on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers for all items less food and energy from 1957 to 2010. It shows the index value, inflation rate as a percentage change from the previous year, and volatility in inflation rates over this time period. Inflation rates were generally higher in the 1970s and early 1980s, peaked at over 12% in 1980, and have declined since then to under 3% in recent years. Volatility in inflation rates also decreased significantly from the high levels of the 1970s.
