EE 170 Problem Set 1 AY 2010-2011 2nd sem

Instructions:

 This problem set is due on Friday December 10, 2010, during class hours. It is worth 50 points of
your quizzes.
 Submit your answers on questions 4 and 5 only, write your answers on a 1 whole sheet of yellow
paper. The rest of the problems are given to help you study for the 1 st exam on December 15,
2010, class hours.
 Bonus points will be given to those who will attend iceberg, a quiz contest by ERG. Please
approach any ERG members for the specifics of the said event.

1. Find the RMS value of the current waveform in the given figure. If current flows through a 9 Ω
resistor, calculate the average power absorbed by the resistor.

2. Find the RMS value of the full-wave rectified sine wave in the figure. Calculate the average
power dissipated in a 6 Ω resistor

3. The noise power on a resistor is measured to be 5 mW in a 270 C condition. Determine the


bandwidth of the noise.
4. Find the trigonometric Fourier series (expanded and compact/Amplitude-phase form) of a
periodic waveform with an equation. Graph the amplitude phase spectrum up to its 5 th harmonic.
