Intro To Data Processing

Data processing involves arranging related data in an organized manner to provide useful information. It follows a basic cycle of origin of data, input, processing, and output. Processing involves manipulating input data through operations like classifying, sorting, calculating, recording, and summarizing. The objectives of a data processing department are to supply computerized information services to an organization. It operates computer systems and involves people from different professions. The organizational structure of the department should be flexible and reviewed periodically with clearly defined objectives and grouping of activities by purpose. A data processing department can be located in a user department, service department, or independently with compositions like system development, operations, and technical support.

an organized manner in order to provide useful
INFORMATION.

 Output
PROCESSING
is the manipulating or processing of data which consist of
the actual operations performed on the input.
Classifying- is the process of identifying and grouping data
that consist of the actual operations performed on the input.
Sorting- physical arrangement of data to chronological
order, which is alphabetically and numerically.
Calculating- consist of performing one or more arithmetic
operations of data.
Recording- related to the documentation of intermediate
figures and facts resulting from calculation.
e.Summarizing- is the presentation of data in a compressed
and meaningful manner.
ORGANIZING DATA PROCESSING
ACTIVITIES
The main objectives of data processing department is
to supply computerized information services to the
organisation.
The DP operates the computer system that may
involve communication system,databases and
softwares.
It consist people from different proffesions
Principles of organisational structure
The objectives of the data processing activities and its
component should be clearly defined, agreed upon and
known.
Organisational structure of the DP department should
be flexible and must be reviewed periodically.
The reason for organising/re-organising must be
known and clearly defined.
Data processing activities and functions should be
grouped according to their objective and purposes.
The level of authority should be kept to a minimum
