Configuration of Netbackup Unix SAN Media Server 6.5.3.

Prerequisites:
1. Netbackup 6.5 binaries
2. Netbackup 6.5.3 patch
3. Netbackup 6.5.3 CLT patch
4. Netbackup 6.5.3.1 patch
5. Netbackup 6.5.3.1 CLT patch
6. Netbackup ICS 6.5
7. PORTS open between master and media servers - 13724(vnetd),
1556(veritas_pbx)
8. At least 3Gb’s of free space

Initial Configuration on Master:


1. Make “ SERVER = media_server_name” in bp.conf
2. Make “ SERVER = media_server_name” “DEVICE_HOST =
media_server_name” “KNOWN= media_server_name” in vm.conf
3. If fqdn is being used in configuration file , make a alias in NB EMM database to
use short alias name for the server.(optional)
Command:
nbemmcmd -machinealias [-brief]
[-addalias -alias <string> -machinename <string>]
[-deletealias -alias <string>]
[-deleteallaliases -machinename <string>]
[-getaliases -machinename <string>]
-machinetype <api | app_cluster | cluster | master | media | ndmp >

Installation on Media Server:


1. Install ICS
2. Install Netbackup 6.5
3. Install all patches after un-archiving them all in one directory(to make sure
interdependency of patches is met)
4. add “REQUIRED_INTERFACE = 20.22.187.150” to bp.conf(if there are
multiple interfaces on media server and backup traffic needs to go through a
particular interface)

Configuration of Tape Drive


1. Run Device Configuration from Java GUI(this will configure the drive and also
the storage unit)

Select the new san media server to be configured, unselect all others:
Clieck next to discover the drives attached to the media server:
Click next and skip SAN clients window
Review the detected devices and click next:
Verify that the drive appears under the robot:
Next configure the storage unit.
-make sure the “on demand only” option is checked , so that the media server is
used only for backups of itself.
