Power Point Presentation On Infrared Remote Control On

This power point presentation summarizes a student project to build an infrared remote control system using a microcontroller. A group of 4 students - Anirban Lahon, Farooq Imran Khan, Indranuj Khoung, and Pallab Das built the circuit under the guidance of Dr. Aroop Bardalai. The circuit uses an AT89C2051 microcontroller to receive infrared signals from a remote control and switch on/off up to 6 electrical devices using relays. The circuit diagram and working is explained in detail. The students tested the circuit and found the infrared sensor and power supply components were working as intended.

INTRODUCTION
 The Project INFRA-RED REMOTE SWITCH USING
MICROCONTROLLER is used to switch on/off the Home Appliances
by using a standard Remote control.

 The system is used to switch on/off upto six electrical devices.

 All the above processes are controlled by the 8 bit Microcontroller

AT89C2051.

 The system works on Phillips RC5 format. High power loads can also be
connected by changing the Relay.
OBJECTIVES
 To switch on/off the Home Appliances by using a standard Remote
control.

 The system should work within a range of 10 meters.

 High power loads can also be connected by using relays of appropriate

value.

 The system should work on any remote supporting Phillips RC5

protocol.
BACKGROUND

INFRARED REMOTE CONTROL

INFRA-RED

RC-5 PROTOCOL
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
CIRCUIT COMPONENETS
1. AT89C2051 (MICROCONTROLLER)

Features:
1. 2K bytes of Flash

2. 128 bytes of RAM

3. 15 I/O lines

4. Two 16-bit timer/counters

5. Erasable read-only memory

(PEROM).
PROGRAMMING THE MICROCONTROLLER

1. Power-up sequence.
2. Set pin RST to “H”
Set pin P3.2 to “H”.
3. Apply the appropriate combination of “H” or “L”
logic levels to pins P3.3, P3.4, P3.5, P3.7.

Software
1.Keil
2. ULN2003 (HIGH VOLTAGE AND CURRENT
TRANSISTOR ARRAY.

3. 74LS04 (Hex Inverting Gates).

4. LM7805 (VOLTAGE REGULATOR)
5. CRYSTAL OSCILLATOR

6. SIP RESISTOR
7. TRANSFORMER(230/12V)
8. RELAY

9. INFRA-RED SENSOR
WORKING OF THE CIRCUIT

1. The 38khz infra-red(IR) rays energized by a remote control

are received a infra-red receiver module SM0038 of the
circuit.
2. The output from pin 3 is given to the pin6 of the
microcontroller(AT89C2051) for processing.
3. The IC ULN2003 amplifies the signal which drives the
relay.
4. The appliance connected to the relay does operate due to
signal from the remote control.
5. The power circuit consists of an IC LM7805(voltage
regulator) which constantly gives an output of 5V for an
input in the range of (9-12V).
CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS
We have constructed the circuit, first on a breadboard and then on a soldered circuit

board.

After testing it in the CRO (Crystal Ray Oscillograph) we have found that sensor is

working.

The rectifier circuit is also giving the correct output which should be 5V and 12V.
We have programmed the microcontroller

We tried to find the SIP resistor in the market but could not. So we made an

equivalent circuit of it.
