Taneshabrenno - Introduction and Conclusion

1) Drug addiction is an illness that has affected many homes in the United States and beyond for years. 2) Addiction can be defined as an abnormal fixation or craving of any substance despite negative consequences. Once drug use becomes chronic, the user is highly likely to relapse even after a long period of abstinence. 3) While the consequences, causes, and effects of drug addiction were discussed, many questions remain unanswered about what influences individuals' responses and motivations around drug use. Addiction has become a disease, a crime, and a vicious cycle that can be difficult for individuals to escape from.

Thesis: Drug Addiction is an illness that has been running through homes across the
United States of America and beyond for many years.

Intro: ³You do anything to escape the habit of living until the escape becomes the habit´ ±
David Ryan

What is addiction? Addiction can easily be defined as an abnormal fixation,

craving, and using of any substance, despite the negative consequences. Any kind of craving or
other behaviors related are incorporated with the addiction illness. Most are not easy to control as
physical dependencies. For most drug users, the use starts becoming more chronic. Then there is
always a high possibility that the user will relapse, even after a long period of time has passed.

Conclusion: After this lengthy discussion in regards to consequences, causes, and effects of drug
addiction, there are still many many questions that are left unanswered, that cannot be explained.
There are many variations in individuals that somewhat protect a person¶s response and
motivation to drug use. As stated before, drug addiction has become a disease, crime, and a
vicious cycle, that makes it difficult for an individual, who may be trapped, to get away. ³In a
consumer society there are inevitably two kinds of slaves: The prisoners of addiction and the
prisoners of envy´- Ivan Illich
