Assign 2 DFA Boothroyd

The document provides instructions for analyzing a product assembly process. Students are asked to: (1) go through the assembly process shown in the figure, (2) complete a Boothroyd table showing assembly times for the current design using data from provided tables, and (3) suggest design changes to improve assembly, analyze the revised design, and calculate time savings. Any assumptions made should be stated.

Assignment DFA Boothroyd

a) Go through the assembly process for the product as shown in the figure 1

b) Complete a Boothroyd table (the design for manual assembly worksheet in the
handout) showing the assembly of the item (the handling times and insertion times are
obtained from Manual Handling Times and Manual Insertion Times tables in the
handout. Alpha and Beta symmetries are needed for this, as well as subjective
measures of, for example "easy to align and position") for the present design .

c) Suggested further design changes to improve the assembly both by eliminating parts
and in making the design easier to assemble. Complete a revised DFA analysis of the
revised design. Calculate the design efficiency and the total assembly time of the
revised design. Calculate the total time savings.

You can assume that the assembly will be assembled manually. State any assumptions
made.
