Figure 9. Menu Options Mouse Used
System installation will detect the mouse is used in accordance with that use.
Incidentally at the time of installation to use the mouse PS / 2 scroll so that the display
will appear as above.
Installing Red Hat Linux 9 provides a choice of 4 types of installation are as Personal
6
Computers, as Workstation, As a Server or Custom. For a network operating system
then choose as a server like the picture above.
In Redhat Linux 9 installation, it takes a minimum of disk partition into 2, namely for
/ root and swap. To create a partition can be either automatic or manually.
If you already have a hard drive partition that is used with other formats such as Fat
16 for Windows 97, Fat 32 for win 98, ME or NTFS for Win XP, 2000 and NT, then
you can maintain the previous partition by selecting the option Keep the all partition
and use existing free space.
Options Remove all partition on this system will delete all partitions on the hard disk
so that all data will be lost. If the hard drive is used to perform the installation is
empty you should select this menu.

Figure 14. Failure to Make Partition Error Messages
If you're having disk partition creation process fails, then the partitioning process can
be repeated by returning to the previous menu.
Disk partition process can be done manually with disk facility druids like in the
picture above. With the DiskDruidartitioning can be made as needed.
8
Figure 17. Making Menu With Manually Partition Disk Druid
In the picture above shows that the hard drive partition that is used has had as many as
3, ie each using the NTFS format. To create a new partition menu select [NEW], to
change the format the partition select the [EDIT], and to delete existing partitions
select [DELETE].

Figure 20. Settings Manually Partition with Disk Druid
Once you make a disk partition process then the result will look like the picture above
the minimum consists of 2 main partition ie / root and swap. In the installation of
Linux-based operating system partitions that are typically used quite a lot that is /
root, / boot, / home, / var, / usr and swap.
After the partitioning process is done either automatically or manually, then the next
process is the selection of Boot Loader.
Boot loader is the first software that runs when the computer was first turned on. This
software is functioning at the time of loading and transfer control to operate the
system software kernel.
Setting the boot loader has an important role to be installed if the computer has
another operating system then can choose which operating system to be used.
Redhat 9 provides two software boot loader is GRUB and LILO.
10
Figure 22. Boot Loader Configuration
In order to improve computer security at the network, Red Hat Linux provides
Firewall Protection. We can choose the security level that desired like in the picture
above.
11
Figure 24. Firewall Configuration
• Medium
Level mediium provide limitations in connection to a particular source system.
• No Firewall
Selection No firewall security level can be done if it is satisfied that systems are in a
network that can be trusted.
Timing
The timing must be done for the time indicated on the computer according to the
place where the computer is placed.
User Settings
After the installation process will display the password setting root (network
administrator). In this process required setting the root password (administrator). This
process is very important in network operating systems because only at this level of
12
total access rights can be done.
Besides the root, can also add users that can use this system with a password as a user.
Having determined the root password the next step is the process of copying the
necessary files to the hard drive until the installation is finished with a marked display
stating that the installation process has completed.
