ntroduction
½ caersk Oil is an international oil and gas
exploration and production company established
in Denmark in 1962 by A.P. Moller-Maersk.
½ Rperating in a number of countries worldwide,
½ The company operates a combined oil
production of some 650,000 barrels per day and
½ A sales gas production of up to some 1,000
million cubic feet per day.
Project Al Shaheen (Maersk Ril Qatar )
½ caersk Oil Qatar began operations in Qatar in 1992,
when an Exploration and Production Sharing
Agreement (EPSA) was signed with Qatar to develop
the Al Shaheen Field in Block 5, offshore Qatar.
½ Maersk Ril Qatar͛s 2005 Field Development Plan
(2005 FDP) encompasses the drilling of more than
160 production and water injection wells over a six
year period as well as construction and offshore
installation of fifteen new platforms with
accommodation and production facilities.
½ The company gained a Guiness World record after
drilling the longest horizontal well to date, with a
length of 40,320 feet (12.3 km).
Financial aspect
The $6 billion project includes the installation of:
½ 15 platforms
½ Drilling of 160 new wells and
½ 140,000 tonnes of new facilities
Time line
½ n 1992, Maersk Ril entered into an Exploration and
Production Sharing Agreement with Qatar Petroleum
on behalf of the Government of Qatar.
½ n 1994,oil production from the Al Shaheen Field in
Block 5 commenced
½ n 2004,Maersk Ril entered into an Exploration and
Production Sharing Agreement for Block 5 Extension
Area
½ n December 2005, Maersk Ril Qatar and Qatar
Petroleum agreed on a plan for further development of
the Al Shaheen Field offshore Qatar.
½ n 2009, the oil production was in average some
300,000 barrels per day
