Mid-Autumn Festival

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, children are happy to stay up past

midnight, parading multi-colored lanterns as families take them to
the streets or city parks to moon-gaze.
月 The Moon

The full moon is a symbol for reunion. (to bring

together)

On Mid Autumn day, the moon is the roundest and

brightest- a time of completeness and abundance.

The Legend

嫦娥 Chang’e & 后羿 Hou Yi the Archer

Long time ago, 10 suns were in the sky instead of
one. The extreme heat made life on earth
unbearable.

Hou Yi, an expert archer, tried to save the earth.

He shot down nine of the suns. Everyone was very
happy and he became an instant hero.

He eventually became king and married a young

beautiful girl called 嫦娥 Chang’e.

However, Hou Yi grew to become a tyrant
king.
He wanted immortality by ordering a magic
potion to prolong his life.

To save the people from the tyrant king, 嫦娥

Chang’e found the potion and drank it.

The moment she drank the potion, she flew

out of the window and up into the sky, towards
the moon.
嫦娥
It is believed that Chang’e turned
into the goddess of the moon and lived there
ever since.
