Venturi Flowmeter

The venturi flowmeter uses the Bernoulli effect to measure fluid velocity. It has a constricted section that increases fluid velocity, resulting in a pressure drop measured by a manometer. The pressure difference relates to the inlet velocity, assuming constant fluid density, which may not always be true.

Bernoulli
concepts

A practical instrument which makes use of the Bernoulli effect and a

manometer pressure gauge is the venturi flowmeter. The illustration shows that
you can express the fluid velocity v1 at the inlet of the device in terms of the
difference in pressure measured by the manometer. Note that it presumes that
the density of the flowing gas is constant, which will not necessarily be true.
