EXCERPT OF COPPA

This excerpt has been prepared by BERT for the Quality Improvement Program in Teaching
workshop to be attended by all academic staff in Unirazak. The full documents (COPPA,
COPIA, MQF) are available from the MQA website for those who are interested to have the set
for personal use.

As BERT believes that for the purposes in hand, only Areas 2 and 3 of the COPPA are of
immediate relevance that this workshop will only deal with the seven items from these two MQA
areas.

Workshops as the name suggests are events that require participation of all concerned. At this
workshop also participants are required to record what they already know about the practices of
their departments or faculties or schools in respect of the seven items being discussed at this
workshop.

An integral part of this activity is heightening awareness about those seven important elements
and showing how they could be used to help the lecturers understand, internalize, practice and
then apply what they gained at the workshop in the real life of teaching.

In the final analysis BERT could only guide lecturers onto the right path. The rest has to be done
by the lecturers themselves and as a group by their faculties or schools.

The learning objective of this workshop is to enhance awareness of Malaysian requirements of

quality teaching in the country and in so doing bring teaching in the country closer to the cutting
edge in line with the government’s wish to make the country a high earning income nation for no
high income is possible without quality products and services.

The learning outcome of this workshop is an educated Malaysian society that is learning able,
innovative, creative, full of initiatives and continually current in its ability and capability.

Please make sure that you have read this excerpt, understood it, thought about how it affects and
will affect your teaching for the next 3, 5 to 10 years. If you had not spent the time to read this
extremely short excerpt of a voluminous codes of practice, you will find it difficult to appreciate
the workshop.
