Troubleshooting
If you experience sound and music delays or jerks during the game then make sure
that no background programs that occupy your sound card are running (especially
Winamp). In some cases the simultaneous operation of such programs can cause
breakdowns of the game sound subsystem.

If you experience problems with the sound quality then try to switch on/off the
options: SETTINGS->SOUND->HARDWARE ACCELERATION

In DxDiag utility you may also try setting the scroll box of the sound hardware
acceleration to the “default” position.
If you use the knife with LSHIFT button then the sticking keys mode may be
activated and MS Windows will show the corresponding window. To switch this
mode off go to Control panel -> Special abilities. Select the bookmark Keyboard.
In the field Sticking keys click on Settings icon and remove all ticks in the
appeared window. You can also reassign the stab key in the options menu of the
game.

For the normal functionality the game needs the AGP aperture size in BIOS
settings to be 128 or more.

In-game controls
Default controls:

S - Backwards
A - Left
D - Right

F5 – Quick save
F9 – Quick load

E – Use
LALT – Run

The “Use” key is used for opening locked doors, actions with switches and other
control elements, using stationary weapons, and also to precisely pick up med
kits and ammo.

The controls can be reassigned at any moment in the options menu; you can also
reset the controls to default.

Using the knife.

The hero uses the knife by pressing LSHIFT and all the weapons, he was equipped
with at the moment, is put away. The knife is used for close combats so it is
always close at hand.

The shield
Press Q, to activate the time shield.

The time shield is the sphere around the player that protects him from the
bullets. The shield stops any bullets (bullets only) that get in touch with it.
These could be both enemy and friendly bullets. Stopped bullets hang in the air,
move with the player and rotate according to the player’s look.

The shield takes energy. The quantity of the energy is represented by the bar at
the left bottom corner of the screen. The energy is filled when the player kills
enemies; the more bullets the shield stops the faster the energy expends.

The bar has two states – first it is blue and then, as it is refilling, it turns
white.

If the player presses Q again then the shield will be deactivated and the
consequences will depend on the energy quantity.

If your energy level is blue all bullets will fall to the ground after
deactivation of the shield, but if the level is white the stopped bullets will
fire to the direction of the player’s look.
