Vision is the most advanced of our seneses, so it is not surprising that images the single most
important role in human perception. The field of digital image processing refers to processing of
digital images by means of a digital computer. Digital image processing encompasses processes
that extract attributes from images. Morphological image processing is one of the branches of
image processing that deals with extracting image components that are useful in the
representation & description of region shapes. In the processing and analysis of images it is
important to be able to extract features, describe shapes and recognize patterns. Such tasks refer
to geometrical concepts such as size, shape, and orientation. Mathematical morphology uses
concepts from set theory, geometry and topology to analyze geometrical structures in an image.
Morphology offers a united & powerful approach to numerous image processing problems. This
paper is an attempt to explain software tool with morphological operators & some of the basic
image processing operations such as Dilation, Erosion, Opening & Closing, derived
morphological functions such as Boundary Extraction, Region Filling & Extract of connected
components & Their Application in fields related to binary morphology such as fingerprints
analysis, character recognition, & other pattern recognition.
