During much of the 1990s and early 2000s, Dan taught U.S. and Latin American
History as a visiting professor at the University of Cincinnati and then at Miami
University in Oxford, Ohio. He now teaches Spanish at an elementary school in
Cincinnati to children grades 1 through 8, while continuing to teach at UC and at
a senior living facility.
Dan is the author of Who Rules Cincinnati: A Study of Cincinnati’s Economic
Power Structure and its Impact on Communities. (Cincinnati Studies, 2008) and
several books, including Rank and File Rebellion: Teamsters for a Democratic
Union (Verso, 1990), Democracy in Mexico: Peasant Rebellion and Political Re
form (South End Press, 1995), Made in Indonesia: Indonesian Workers Since Su
harto (South End Press 2001), and Cesar Chavez and la Causa (Pearson Long‐
man, 2006). He edits the online newsletter Mexican Labor News and Analysis.
Dan brings a lifetime of committed activism to
his intellectual and political work.

As the Ohio Socialist Party candidate for the U.S. Senate, Dan is working to build a
movement to fight for jobs, for a full-employment economy, for health care for all,
for a carbonless environmental policy and for an end to the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan
and Pakistan.
