INTRODUCTION

SURVEY ON INSTITUTION’S ALLOWANCE IN IPG KAMPUS TUANKU BAINUN

Statistics is the formal science of making effective use of numerical data


relating to groups of individuals or experiments. It deals with all aspects of this,
including not only the collection, analysis and interpretation of such data, but also the
planning of the collection of data, in terms of the design of surveys and experiments.
Statistics is considered by some to be a mathematical science pertaining to the
collection, analysis, interpretation or explanation, and presentation of data, while
others consider it to be a branch of mathematics concerned with collecting and
interpreting data.

We have done a survey for 50 respondents which include PISMP & PPISMP
students of this institution. This survey is done to collect some information about the
allowances that we get every month or every semester. Then we organize the data
that we get and then construct the visuals in form of pie charts, bar graph, line graph
and so on. We represent the data, interpret the information and make
inferences/conclusions based on the data that we got.

Based on our survey, we want to get information about students’ allowances.


The first thing we ask them is about how much they students get the allowance. We
make this survey based on respondents from PPISMP and PISMP. Besides we also
want to know what the students faced about the allowance, how they cope with the
little amount of money, and how they survive when they have run out of money.
APPRECIATION

Grateful to Allah S.W.T because of HIS-blessing, we have succeeded in


completing our short coursework for Basic Mathematics subject that were given to us
in the date given.

Special thanks to my lecturer, Dr Chiew for his comments on this


assignment during the process. These special thanks also go to our fellow friends
that had helped us a lot by giving their opinions and sharing some information with
us. Although we faced many troubles, with the cooperation and commitment from our
class, we have finally able to make this assignment as perfect as we could possibly
do.

During the process of completing this short coursework, we have tried our
best in collecting the information and later on organizing, and lastly representing it
into visual form. From the graphs that we have made, there are huge differences
between males and females when it comes to allowance money.

Thousands of apologies from our behalf if there are any flaws that we
have made unintentionally. We hope that by doing this assignment, it would give all
of us many benefits by learning about statistics in advance. Though the benefits
might not have shown their colour now, it might be, in a few years’ time when we
have finally graduated and become great teachers. Insya Allah.

Thus, here, I want to convey my best regards to those involved in the


process of making this assignment a success whether directly or indirectly.

REFLECTION

Throughout the making of this assignment, I was finally able to complete this
short coursework at the given time. I was asked to do statistical surveys which are
used to collect quantitative information about items in a population. That survey may
focus on opinions or factual information depending on its purpose, and many surveys
involve administering questions to individuals. I need to collect, organize and
construct visuals to represent the data in the form of bar charts, pie charts, line
graphs and so on. At first I find it very difficult to do this assignment, but with
assistance from our lecturer, Dr Chiew Chin Mon, we finally got a full review of what
we should do in this assignment though at the beginning we felt quite confused
about how to do it.

This assignment was handed to us on 2 nd August 2010 and was supposed to


be submitted on 16th August 2010. Once my group member, Ain and I get this
assignment we had even started to design the questionnaire. The next day, we
printed out the questionnaire and begin collecting information. After the next few
days, my group member would come in and we discussed about this assignment
after evening classes, usually at 3.00pm which took the whole week.

This assignment taught me a lot about patience. We need to wait for quite a
long time for the respondents to finish ticking their answer in the space provided. But
since that we ought to do that assignment based on the survey we took, I tried to
increase my patience to a higher limit. But then, most of them have given their full
cooperation since they also asked for our help later on to fill in their questionnaire.

I believed that I should have done better in this assignment. More information
is supposed to be inserted as references. But since many are going back home
during this fasting month, it is quite hard to exchange books and so on. While this
fasting month taught us to be more disciplined in our daily lives, this assignment
taught me that team work is the best thing we should be having because if only one
person is doing the job, this assignment would not be like the one we gave it to you.

I learned much new knowledge that I really appreciate while completing this
assignment. I also learned a lot of things about statistics and besides, I am able to
digest the information and represent the data into visual form by using Microsoft
Excel. The knowledge and skills that I have learned would be much appreciated
since I will contribute this to the society and to my future students. Insya Allah.
