Single Stage

The document contains 7 problems related to calculating power requirements, temperatures, efficiencies, and other parameters for single-stage and two-stage reciprocating air compressors operating under various compression processes and conditions. The problems involve variables like bore, stroke, pressure ratios, flow rates, temperatures, speeds, indices of compression, and determining outputs like power, work, efficiency and free air delivered.

1)A single stage single acting reciprocating air

compressor has bore 300mm and stroke 400 mm is

required to compress air from 1 bar to 5 bar Find
power required to drive the compressor running at
200 rpm. If 1)polytropic compression (n=1.3)
2)Adiabatic compression 3)Isothermal compression.

2)A single stage single acting reciprocating

compressor sucks air of 0.0143m3 at1 bar and
delivers it at 12 bar following pv1.3=c. Find
power if runs at 400rpm. Also find isothermal
efficiency.
3)A single acting single stage air compressor
delivers air at 5 bar A suction temp. is 20c and
suction pressure is 1 bar . The volume of air
entering the comp. is 3m3/min taking index of
compressor 1.2 . Calculate isothermal effi. Of
compressor.
4) A single stage single acting air compressor
has piston displacement 0.05m3. Air is sucked at
1 bar at 17 deg c and compressed to 6 bar. Find
work done and temp. at the end of compression
in following two cases 1)Polytropic process
(n=1.3)
2)Isothermal process
5) It is desired to compress 17 m3 of air per
minute from 1N/cm2 to 7 cm2 in single stage
compressor. Calculate indicated power and
temp. of the end compression if initial temp. of
air is 21c and index of compression 1.3

6) single acting two stage compressor delivers

10 kg per minute at 16 bar. The suction pressure
is 1 bar and temp. 15c. the index of compression
is 1.25 calculate isothermal efficiency if
compressor runs at 400 rpm.

7)single acting two stage air compressor is

complete intercooling delivers 6 kg per minute
at 16 bar. Assuming n=1.3 and intake pressure 1
bar and intake temp. 15c,Determine
i) Power to drive the compressor
ii) Isothermal efficiency
iii) Free air delivered (FAD)
