Section 2.4 Writing Linear Equations: Algebra II - NOTES

This document contains notes from an Algebra II class on writing linear equations. It includes examples of writing linear equations in slope-intercept form given a slope and point, two points, and from a word problem describing a salesperson's commission. It also includes an example of writing an equation for a line perpendicular to another line given a point. For homework, students are assigned even problems from specific pages.

Algebra II – NOTES
Section 2.4 WRITING LINEAR EQUATIONS

Ex 1. Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form for the line that has slope of –3/2 and passes
through (-4, 1).

ST 1. Same directions as above slope 3/5 and point (5, -2)

Ex 2. Write an equation in slope intercept form given two points (-1, 4) and (4, 5)

ST 2. Same directions as above (2, -3) and (-3, 7)

Ex 3. As a salesperson, Eric is paid a daily salary plus commission. When his sales are $1,000, he
makes $100. When his sales are $1,400 he makes $120.

a. Write a linear equation to model this situation

b. What is Eric’s commission rate and daily salary?

c. How much would he make in a day if his sales were $2,000?

Ex 4. Write an equation for the line that passes through (4, -3) and is perpendicular to the line with
equation y = -4x +1.

ST 4. Same directions as above (3, -2) perpendicular to the line y= -5x+ 1
