YEAR 12 MEDIA
LESSON 1
AIMS
• To understand what a blog is

• To understand the technology you will be

required to use for this course

• To register accounts for a number of sites you

will be using in this production

• To post a blog
FILM CLUB
• On my side of the course we will be
conducting an institutional study of the film
industry – specifically Film 4.
• As part of your studies it is essential that
you watch as many films as possible.
• Therefore I will be running a series of
after-school screenings (one a week) of films
to help with your course.
• It is advisable to attend all screenings,
however some screenings will be compulsory.

•It is also worth noting that

some of the films shown
during this course will be
certificated 18.
•If you object to watching
these films you do not have
to view them.
•It should be noted though
that this could have a
negative effect on your exam
grade in January.
WHAT IS A BLOG?
• A blog (short for "Web log") is a Web site,
usually maintained by an individual with regular
entries of commentary, descriptions of events,
or other material such as images or video.

• "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to

maintain or add content to a blog.

• Many blogs provide commentary or news on a

particular subject; others function as more
personal online diaries. A typical blog combines
text, images, and links to other blogs, Web
pages, and other media related to its topic.
The ability for readers to leave comments in an
interactive format is an important part of many
blogs.
WHAT YOU NEED

THE FUNCTION OF THE BLOGS
You will be frequently set a task in relation to your blog – this could
be as often as twice a week.

It could be a research or reflection based task depending on where

you’re at in the course.

The tasks are a bare minimum – those students who are aiming
for top marks will use the blog as a scrap book for research and
ideas and a functional, reflective, constraints based production log.

Here are some examples from year 12 thrillers

Good example http://mala.edublogs.org/
Poor example http://djmullings.edublogs.org/
