valves shall be subjected to cryogenic tests as per BS 6364.
2.3.2 Wherever impact test of SS studs/nuts is called for in the data sheet, the
impact value shall be 27 J at the intended temp specified in data sheet.
Valve under NACE shall follow the requirement of NACE-MR-0175.
2.3.3 All NACE materials shall have carbon equivalent less than 0.40.

as per relevant material specification as applicable. In case of forgings,
material TC shall be furnished for review/correlation with stamping at
the time of raw material identification.
2.3.3.6 HIC, SSC tests are not envisaged and strict control shall be ensured
for material composition as per stipulated requirement.
2.3.3.7 All castings for body / bonnet shall be 100% radiographed irrespective
of rating. The procedure, areas to be radiograph and acceptance limits
shall be as per ANSI –B16.34 Annexure – B. Sensitivity shall be as
per ASME sec V.
2.3.4 For all Austenitic stainless steel valves, Inter Granular Corrosion test shall
have to be conducted as per following:
2.3.4.1 ASTM A 262 practice B with acceptance criteria of 50 mils / year max.
2.3.4.2 For SS 309, 310, 316 & 316H, ASTM A 262 practice C with
acceptance criteria of 15 mils/year max.
2.3.5.1 Carbon steel shall be normalized and Alloy Steel shall be noramlised
and tempered
2.3.5.2 DP test shall be in accordance with ASTM B165 procedure B-2.
interpretation as per Annexure-8 of ASME Sec –VIII, Div 1.Tensile test
for AS shall be less than 100,000 psi.
2.3.5.3 All castings for body / bonnet shall be 100% radiographed irrespective
of pressure, temperature, class & ratings.
2.3.5.4 All welds shall be subjected to PWHT.
2.3.5.5 Bend Test and Magnetic Particle Test of entire body surface and
bonnet casting in accordance with ASTM A 217, with supplementary
requirement S-3 and S-4. Evaluation of Magnetic Particle test shall be
in accordance with MSS – SP- 53 except that no linear discontinuity
shall be allowed.
2.3.5.6 The Brinell Haedness of heat treated casting shall not exceed 200
BHN for CS and 225 for AS.
2.3.5.7 Casting shall be preheated to a maximum of 400 deg F prior to welding
and all chrom- moly alloys shall be postweld heat treated after welding
is complete. Stress relieving is essential for welds.
2.3.5.8 Casting for SS valve shall be in solution heat-treated and pickled
condition.
2.3.5.9 Body/bonnet/cover joints and stuffing box of all valves shall be helium
leak tested as per ASME SecV, sub section A, Article 10 ( Detector
Probe Technique), Appendix IV at a minimum of 25% of the allowable (
rated ) cold working pressure. Sampling for helium leak test shall be
one valve selected at random per item of requisition. The failure of
helium leak test shall call for testing of remaining valves of the item at
vendor’s cost. Test duration ( minutes) shall be as follows:
Up to 2 inch : 3 6 9 12 12
3 to 6 inch 6 9 12 15 18
8 to 16 inch 9 9 12 15 18
18 to 24 inch 9 12 15 18 21
2.4 All valves shall be shot / grit blasted as per SA 2 ½ Standard and shall be
painted with 2 coats of Zinc Silicate primer.
2.5 Non –IBR CS valves shall be painted with two coats of Aluminum paint.
2.6 IBR valves shall be painted with two coats of Red paint
2.7 Alloy steel valves shall be painted with Heat Resistant Silicon /Aluminium
Paint suitable for max. temperature for the class of valve.
2.11 For all weld end valves with bevel ends as per ANSI B 16.25, the
contour of bevel shall be as follows:
2.12 By-pass:
For gate valves:
4.4 TPI shall ensure & certify the strip testing of 10% (subject to a

minimum of one no.) of each type & size of valve randomly selected
by him. The randomly selected valves shall be completely
dismantled to ensure conformity to standards of all valve
components. The strip test results shall be clearly specified in the
certificate indicating the valve serial no.of the valves that are
dismantled.
4.5 Visual inspection of 100% valves in assembled condition
4.6 Witnessing the hydrostatic test of each valve for body, seat,
backseat test & low pressure / high-pressure seat closure test etc.
Corrosion inhibitor may be used if water quality is not good.
4.7 Witnessing the pneumatic test of (with clean air as medium) for
seat leak test 10% or one no. valve, whichever is higher.
4.8 Requirement of NACE & H2 service valves, IGC test as per clause
2.2 shall be ensured by verifying the manufacturing processes and
test results and the same shall be recorded in the TPI release note.
4.9 Stamping shall be done on the body / bonnet flange of the valve.
4.10 TPI release note on their letter head shall contain the compliance
status of all the requirements as per Annexure-I in tabular form with
test results and remarks.
Random samples shall be drawn from each lot of valves received at IOCL
stores and may be subjected to the following tests;
5.1 Tag details, dimensional check, rating and review of inspection certificates
issued by the manufacturer & Third Party Inspector.
5.2 Randomly selected valves can be dismantled & subjected to testing for
establishing conformity to M.O.C for body seat , wedge ,bonnet, stem
(with Alloy analyser), gland packing, hand wheel, bush, studs, stem nut
etc.
6.1 Manufacturer shall enclose the original release note issued by TPI
alongwith the despatch documents.
6.2 Should the random specimen fail to meet the requirement as spelt out in
the order during IOCL inspection (refer clause 5.0) all the valves
represented by the sample shall stand rejected. The supplier shall replace
the total lot with a fresh lot of valves (duly tested & inspected by TPI) at his
own risk & cost.
6.3 Deviations if any shall be clearly marked on this specification sheet only.
The party shall return a copy of "TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION " duly
signed & stamped as a token of acceptance without which the offer is
liable for rejection.
