1. Om Bhur Buvaha Suvaha
Thath Savithur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi
Dhiyo Yonaha Prachodayath
We contemplate the glory of Light illuminating the three worlds:
gross, subtle, and causal.
I am that vivifying power, love, radiant illumination, and
divine grace of universal intelligence.
We pray for the divine light to illumine our minds.
2. Karmanye Vadhika Raste Maa Faleshu Kadachan
Ma Karma Fal Heturbhuh, Ma Te Sangotsva Karmani
You have a right to “Karma” (actions) but never to any Fruits thereof. You should never
be motivated by the results of your actions, nor should there be any attachment in not
doing your prescribed activities.
3. Om Saha Naa Vavatu; Saha Nau Bhunaktu
Saha Veeryam Karavaa Vahai
Tejasvi Naa Vadheetamastu
Maa Vid Vishaa Vahai
Om Shaanti Shaanti Shaanti
May the Lord protect us together
May He nourish us together

6. Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu Gurur Devo Maheshwara
Gurur Saakshaat Param Brahma Tasmai Shree Guruve Namah
Guru is none other than the Creator, Lord Brahma;
Guru is none other than Lord Vishnu, the Preserver
Guru is Maheshwara, the Destroyer
He is the Supreme Braham Himself
To such Guru I offer my salutations.
7. mukam karoti vachalam
pangum langhayate girim
yat-kripa tam aham vande
shri-gurum dina-taranam
I offer my respectful obeisance unto my spiritual master, the deliverer of the fallen souls.
His mercy turns the dumb into eloquent speakers and enables the lame to cross
mountains.

Hindu Calendar: dating system used in India from about 1000BC is still used to establish dates
for the Hindus—Lunar based calendar; It is based on 12 full lunar cycles—254 days; every 30
months or so one whole extra month is added—Adhik Maas.
Shak Samvat, Vikram Samvat are two calendars most prevalent.
