A Poem in Memory of the Monks of Myanmar

September 2007

Monks of Mynamar walked peacefully to take a stand,

against the brutality and oppression in their land.

Then spoke the voice of tyranny, the words not said.

it being the actions of firing bullets and bloodshed.

From the utterance of the last whispering breath,

is born the horrifying legacy of carnage and death.

Simply walking in protest, a dictatorship to defy,

the monks were cut down viciously and made to die.

The monks by their courage and nobility against strife,

consecrate a love of peace and freedom with their life.

Each monk spoke for freedom by their walk and deed,

so that those in chains of dictators can be set free.

I mourn for the monks of Mynamar and shed a sad tear,

for they are heroes against a state of terror and fear.
