Computer Hardware

The document discusses the key hardware components of a computer system. It describes the motherboard as the main circuit board that contains the microprocessor and acts as the control system. It also discusses the computer display system which includes a video card and monitor, keyboards which send data serially, storage devices including hard disk drives and floppy disk drives, printers that can be impact or non-impact, and scanners that digitize images or text.

INTRODUCTION

 DEF: The mechanical,electronic,and

electrical devices making up a computer
system
OR
 The physical touchble material parts of a
computer or other systems. The term is
used to distingnish these fixed parts of
the system from the more changeble
software or data components.
COMPUTER DISPLAY
SYSTEM
 Computer display system is made
up of two different parts:
1) A video card
2) A monitor.
 These parts work together to show
any output or display on the
monitor.
KEY BOARD

 The keyboard consists of key

switches.
 A serial keyboard as used in PCs,
send the data ,bit by bit, in a serial
fashion.
 The computer converts the data
into byte.
MOTHERBOARD

 Motherboard or system board is the

biggest circuit card in the complete
computer system.
 It contains microprocessers which
is the main chip on the board.
 If power supply is the heart of a
PCs, the motherboard represents
the arteries, control nervous
system.
 The advantage of that you can
update to a faster processor simply
by replacing the system board.
STORAGE DEVICES

 Storage devices has two types are:

1) Primary storage device.
2) Secondary storage device.
 FDD is used as a primary memory for
storing small data or programs.
 HDD is used as a secondary memory
for storing large data or programs.
PRINTERS

 The printers can be classified into two

categories:
1) Impact printers.
2) Non-impact printers.
 In impact printer the character is formed
by moving a vertical column of pins
across a line and made to srike on to
the ribbon which in turn strikes the
paper.
 In non-impact printers, the print device
does not come in to direct contact with
the paper.
SCANNERS

 A scanner is a machine which translates

an images in to digital data and stores
the data in the system or on a disk.
 There are two broadly classified
scanning technologies:
1) Image scanning.
2)Text scanning.
