M: But before I do, what is ‘boyfriend’ in Hàn yǔ?

S: Duì le, 男朋友 nán péng you. And ‘girlfriend’?

M: Meí cuò. 女朋友 nǚ péng you.

S: ML, why are you crying? 你怎么哭了? nǐ zěn me kū le?

M: Because the day before yesterday my boyfriend left me. 因为,前天我的男朋

M: He has a new girlfriend. 他有了一个新的女朋友 tā yǒu le yí gè xīn de nǚ péng


you. And the day after tomorrow, they will get married! 他们后天结婚 tā men
hòu tiān jié hūn.

S: 他们后天结婚 tā men hòu tiān jié hūn. Never mind.

S: Did you remember ‘the day after tomorrow’? Duì le. hòu tiān, hòu tiān.

M: And ‘to marry’ jié hūn, jié hūn. So, now say, ‘they marry the day after
tomorrow’.

S: Duì le, 他们后天结婚 tā men hòu tiān jié hūn. Now say ‘are you married?’

M: Duì le. 你结婚了吗 Nǐ jié hūn le ma?

S: Answering ‘yes’, 是的,我结婚了 shì de, wǒ jié hūn le.

M: A simple ‘no’ would be 没呢. méi ne.

S: Let’s hear the dialogue again.

S: nǐ zěn me kū le?

M: yīn wèi qián tiān wǒ de nán péng you lí kāi le wǒ.

S: Qián tiān nǐ de nán péng you lí kāi le nǐ. Wèi shén me?

M: Yīn wèi, tā yǒu le yí gè xīn de nǚ péng yǒu.

S: yí gè xīn de nǚ péng you!

M: Duì, tā yǒu le yí gè xīn de nǚ péng you. tā men hòu tiān jié hūn.

S: tā men hòu tiān jié hūn. Never mind.

M: Which brings us up to the previous lesson, and that ex of mine is now history.

S: A friend is getting married. 一个朋友要结婚 yí gè péng you yào jié hūn, and
where is the wedding ceremony being held? 婚礼在哪儿举行? hūn lǐ zài nǎr jǚ
xíng?

M: 婚礼在北京饭店举行 hūn lǐ zài Běi jīng fàn diàn jǔ xíng.

S: How do we get there? 我们怎么走? wǒ men zěn me zǒu.

M: Subway, 我们可以坐地铁 wǒ men kě yǐ zuò dì tiě. Or take a bus, 或者坐公共


汽车 huò zhě zuò gōng gòng qì chē.

S: Or a taxi? 出租车行吗? chū zū chē xíng ma?

M: 出租车也行 chū zū chē yě xíng.

S: Subway, bus or taxi. All will do. 地铁 dì tiě, 公共汽车 gōng gòng qì chē,出租
车 chū zū chē.都可以 dōu kě yǐ.

M: Hǎo. To finish, here’s that last dialogue again. Try to say everything with us.

S: yí gè péng you yào jié hūn. hūn lǐ zài nǎr jǔ xíng?

M: hūn lǐ zài Běi jīng fàn diàn jǔ xíng.

S: wǒ men zěn me zǒu?
