Blog Response Lesson

This lesson plan addresses Pennsylvania academic standards related to reading nonfiction, responding to fiction and poetry, and writing with focus, content, and ideas. 1.5.11 B. Write using well-developed content appropriate for the topic; Gather, determine validity and reliability of, analyze and
organize information.

Lesson Objective(s)
(Stated in observable and measurable terms)

The students will be able to answer one blog question in 3-5 sentences, using correct spelling, grammar, the own ideas.
The students will be able to use at least one fact in the response.

Assessment Plan
(What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)

A teacher created rubric will be used for this purpose.

Materials:
Question for blog response, computer, paper, writing utensil, Smart Board, 2 class periods.

Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs:

The special education teacher will be available for those students who need the supports, dictionary, thesaurus, scribe, audio directions,
written directions at computer

Enrichment Techniques:
Enrichment will be done by having the students answer this question as well as creating one of their own they would like to have answered
and finding the answer to it and creating their own blog question and answer

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able
to participate in the lesson):
Cooperative learning aspects will be used, such as ask, pair, share, allowing more than one student to write the response to the blog, with
each completing a response.

Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will ask the students if they have ever used a blog before and appropriately lead the discussion from the answers given. The
teacher will then explain that the students will be responding to blog posts throughout the unit, as this will be the first question to respond to.
The teacher will then go over the blog response rules with the class, clarifying anything that the students deem unclear.

Detailed Teaching Sequence:


(Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred)
1. The teacher will give the students the blog question, What do you know about the Night of Broken Glass, if anything, and what
would you like to know?
2. The teacher will explain to the students that they will have 2 days to think about their response before they are due.
3. The teacher will pass out the rubric that she created and go over it with the students, answering any questions that may arise.
4. The teacher will explain that the students may read up on the topic or just answer the question without reading about it, as it is a
question about what they know.
5. The teacher will use the Smarty Board to show the students where they need to go to get to the blog.
6. The teacher will show the students previous blog responses from other classes.
7. The teacher will answer any questions that may arise.

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities

The teacher will give the students time at the end of the class period to think about their response or to read up on the topic if they choose.
They will be able to take notes on what they want to write in their response.

Closure:
The teacher will remind the class that they will have 2 days, including the current day, to respond to the blog post.
