Students are asked to show all work, consider all possibilities, and follow six specific problem solving steps: read the problem, identify what is being asked, clarify any unknown information, list all given information, select a strategy, and show all steps to a solution with a conclusion. They are then presented with a word problem asking how many different ways they can make change for a dollar using coins in their pocket.
