Amount of Water in The Top Bottle Amount of Water Distance Average

The document describes an experiment to test if the amount of water in a bottle rocket affects its distance. It had 5 controlled variables and launched bottles with 200ml and 500ml of water from a 45 degree angle, recording the distances over multiple trials. The results showed the 200ml rocket flew farther, averaging 78.6m compared to 51m for the 500ml rocket. The conclusion is that the hypothesis that more water means farther was wrong, and improvements for next time would be stronger wings and a sturdier rocket.

EDD: Will the amount of water in the bottle affect the distance it will travel.

I think it will go further with more water because it has more mass and will not just float when it
flies.
5 controlled variables: Same size bottom bottle, same amount of water inside, bottom cap on top
cap off, same shape of bottom bottle, same wing size.
Procedure: attach bottom bottle to top bottle
Then add wings
fill bottom with water
launch at 45º angle
do two trials with both rockets
compare results

Amount of water in the top bottle

Amount of water Distance Average

Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3

200ml 76m 74m 86m 78.6
500ml 45m 53m 55m 51

My Hypothesis was wrong because I said that it would go further with more water in the top bottle but it
went 27 meters further on average with less water so I was wrong.

What I would change the next time I would do this would be to make the wings really strong so it flies
strait and further. I would also make sure that the rocket is more sturdy and put together better than what
we had it.
