2: Job
Reflection

Description of the interview (person, place, time, purpose, role applied for) and how I prepared for it
At the afternoon, the teacher told us that students who are ready can go to the next class for the interview after
5 minutes. I was ready so I went the first. When I entered the class, I appropriately greeted my teacher by saying
good afternoon. Then, I shook hands with her, gave her a copy of my CV, cover letter, and email, and sat. I sat
straight and clearly showed my hand as a sign of honesty. Then the teacher began to ask me questions and I started to
answer. When we finished the interview, I thanked the interviewer for the opportunity of having that great interview
and asked her to give me a feedback of my performance if possible. The interview started at approximately 3:38 PM. It
took place in a class near our usual studying class. The interviewer was Mrs. Martha Banfa our teacher for this course
creating your future. The purpose of this mock interview is to prepare us to the real-life job interview. This is done by
analyzing the mock interview to know our strengths and weaknesses and overcome them. The job I applied for is
administrator/receptionist and this job main role is to attend to visitors and deal with questions, and give information
related to the clinicians and clinic to the customers. The major responsibilities of administrator/ receptionist include
but not limited to answering telephone, screen and direct calls, taking and relaying messages, and giving information
to callers. Before the interview, I was stressed since it was the first time for me to do an interview for a job even while
it was unreal I decided to act like I am entering a real interview so I was a bit nervous. To overcome my stress, I
decided to prepare for the interview. This done when I went through the PowerPoint the teacher explained to us which
is about job interviews. Also, I looked at some videos to visually understand the correct attitudes and body languages I
should use in the interview. I learnt to not ask about the salary in interview. Furthermore, to prepare for the interview, I
searched online of websites containing possible questions that could be asked in job interviews, and according to them
I prepared suitable answers.
My performance evaluation by me and by others, details of my grading method, and feedback from
others
I believe I did well in the interview. I realized that I committed few mistakes, but I will try to not repeat them
when I will do my real life job interview. Overall, I am glad with my performance in the interview that I did not take
much time to think for an answer, but answered immediately. Also, I am happy that I did not stress much in the mock
interview. When my friend heard my interviews record she told me that I did perfect and she was surprised by my
performance. However, I am aware that there are few mistakes I committed in that interview. To grade myself
accurately, I entered an empty room to listen carefully to the recording. I analyze the recording from three areas; the
way I began the interview, the way I answered each question, as well as the way I ended the interview. I used my
notebook and a pencil to write what I believe my correct attitudes and best answers I answered in the mock interview.
In addition, I wrote the areas I am aware I was lacking and the questions that I think I did not give enough details to

them. This method of grading was useful to me. I sent the record to my friend to grade me. My friend method of
grading was she graded each answer out of ten. She gave me for all answers ten out of ten; except for two she gave
me eight out of ten. Overall she told me that I did great. I wanted to receive more feedback, so I asked my sister to
grade me. My sister method of grading was she analyzed each of my answers and told me what I answered well, what
I should add and what I should not say to some of my answers. For example, when I asked about describing a problem
I faced in work place and how I overcame it, I gave an example of a problem with my supervisor at work. However, my
sister told me that the job I chose administrator/receptionist related mostly with how to deal with customers and its
better if I gave a real example of a situation I faced with a difficult patient to show the interviewer that I am capable of
dealing with customers. I benefit a lot from the feedback I received from my friend and my sister.
Things I did well, examples of questions that I handled well, and examples of my answers.
What I did well was, when I entered the interview room, I appropriately greeted my teacher by saying good
afternoon, shook hands with her, told her my name and gave her a copy of my CV, cover letter, and job
advertisement. My body language was good as I sat straight, looked at the teacher and showed my interest in the
interview. Other things I believe I did well were I kept on smiling, clearly showed my hand as a sign of honesty, and
dressed professionally. Additionally, when my teacher asked me questions, I answered them without taking long time
to think. Moreover, when I asked if I have questions I asked if there is opportunity for professional development in this
company, and I asked about the type of people working in this company. I believe these are good questions to show
the interviewer that I am a person who seeks to improve my skills and abilities and I want to know more about people
working with me. Also, when the interview ended I thanked the interviewer about this great opportunity and request a
feedback to show the interviewer that I care about getting the job. I believe there are questions that I answered well in
the interview. Examples include when I asked to talk about myself, why did I choose to work with Dubai Community
Health Centre, how I will cope with stress, and describing a problem I came across in work placement and how I
overcame it. When I asked to talk about myself, I started by saying my name, my major, and when I expected to
graduate. Then I gave summary of my qualifications, skills, and values. I said that I am very organized person, I like to
organize my tasks, I manage my time in which I prioritize my tasks by categorizing them into urgent, important, or not
very necessary, I can efficiently and quickly finish tasks on hand, I have computer skills, I can work using Microsoft
office programs and I like designing websites, PowerPoint slides and certificates, and I like to work with different teams
and deal with people from different nationalities. After that, I talked about summary of my training experience in
Khorfakkan Hospital that I worked in different departments like customer service, public relations, pharmacy, and
medical record, and I gave examples of the tasks I did which are proofread numbers using Microsoft office programs,
used my designing skills in designing PowerPoint slides, and I did office administration tasks like answering the
telephone and taking notes. Finally, I gave reason why I am excited to have this position that I want to get involved in

helping patients and elderly and making them feel better. Secondly, when I asked why I chose to work with Dubai
Community Health Center, I began with telling what I know about it. I said it is a private organization which seeks to
give patients and their family professional services as well as clinical services to make them feel better specifically
patients with mental problems or special needs patients. I gave services of this company like psychiatry, learning
support, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy to show the interviewer that I know about this
company. Then I began to explain why I chose to work with Dubai Community Health Center by telling that I am
interested in dealing with different types of patients, and working with different teams and different nationalities.
Another reason I gave is that I desire to make patients and their family feel better, and by working in this company, I
can greatly affect patient experience in it, and contribute to the satisfaction of patients and their families. Thirdly,
when I asked how I will cope with stress, I said that I am a person who organize her time, so if I will be given many
tasks, I will start with finishing urgent tasks that need to be finished immediately and I will use the rest of time for
other tasks in accordance of their importance. I said if the work does not give me enough time to finish all tasks, I will
use my time to finish them such as using my break time. This will show the interviewer that I am a person who do not
delay the delivery of her tasks and try to finish them accurately and on time. Finally, when I asked how do I see myself
in the next five years in this company, I said that I am really excited with my current position if I get it, and my number
one goal is to do the best I can at this role. However, if down the line there is an opportunity for advancement in this
job, and I have proven that my skills and abilities are needed to take on this next level of responsibility, then of course
I will be happy with it, but currently I am satisfied with my position. This answer will show the interviewer that I am not
just working to seek advancements and more salary, but to do the best I can in my job, but if there is chance of
advancement I will be glad with it.
Areas I need to work on, examples of questions I would answer differently next time, how I answered
them, and how I will answer them in future
I was nervous at the beginning of the interview and this was noticeable by my voice tone, but as the time passed
my nervousness disappeared. Therefore, I need to work on having more courage at interviews. This can be done by
practicing having an interview with a friend so that I will be more confidence of myself in the real life interview. Also, I
realized my voice was low so I will practice speaking louder in the mock interviews I will do with my relatives or
friends. Examples of questions that I desire to answer in a different way next time are as follow: My long term goal in
the company and my salary expectations. When I asked what is my long term goal in this company I said I want
advancement of my work like getting higher position for example the position same as of my superiors and work like
them in future. I believe this answer showed that I just look at advancement and positions. Next time, I will answer
that in future I want to become a manager in the quality improvement area. I will tell that I want to make changes in
the company by improving its services and the way its working. For example, I will participate in the process of

continuous quality improvement in that company. This can be done by ensuring patients safety by emphasizing
infectious control in the center, environmental safety by ensuring the center activities and environment are safety for
special needs and mental health patients to walk on. Also, I will collaborate with the center members to make special
needs and mental health patients life easier in the center by ensuring services done are done accurately and safety as
well as in a timely manner. This answer will make the interviewer realize that I want to become a valuable manager
who always seeks improvement and do her best to ensure work is done in the optimal way. Secondly, when I asked
what are my salary expectations I said I am satisfied with suitable amount of salary. I told the interviewer that I do not
expect much for the position of the administrator/receptionist so I am satisfied with less than 12,000 AED. My answer
was good but it was better if I did said I am satisfied with suitable amount of salary as this might be understood that
the center is not giving suitable amount of salary and I should not mention specific amount of money. Next time, I will
answer that I am more interested in finding a job which is a well fit for my skills and interests, and I am confident that
you are providing a salary that is competitive in the present market. Also, I will search about the salary of this position,
or ask people I know who work the same as this position about their salary. This is because some interviewers
emphasize on interviewees to mention specific amount of money. Then my answer will be Let me see, in accordance
to my research, my understanding is that 20,000 AED per month is typical depending on the role and requirements.
Things I learnt from the interview and from listening to the recording, usefulness of these activities, and
what I will do differently in the real job interview
I learnt a lot from doing this mock interview. In preparing for the interview, I learnt the correct attitudes and body
language I should use in the interview such as sitting straight, looking at the teacher and showing my interest in the
interview. Also, despite I knew type of questions that could be asked in the interview, by doing this mock interview I
learned some critical questions that I did not knew. Examples of these questions include what are your salary
expectations and what are your long term goals in our company. By listening to the interview record, I learnt a lot
about my strengths and my weaknesses in interview. My strengths included that I properly greeted the interviewer,
answered the questions without taking long time to think, and when the interview ended I said good bye, thanked the
interviewer, and asked for feedback. Also, I learned about the type questions that I answered well such as the reasons
for choosing to work with the company and how I will cope with stress. On the other hand, from listening to the
interview record, I learned about my weaknesses. I was nervous at the beginning of the interview and it was noticeable
by my voice tone, and my voice was a bit low when I was talking. I leaned about the type of questions that I did not
answer well according to my feedback and my friend feedback such as my long term goal in the company, and salary
expectations, so I need to work on how to answer them appropriately in the real life interview. All in all, I am happy
with the activities of performing mock interview with the teacher, listening to my performance, and correcting my
mistakes. I believe these activities are useful because they made me realize my areas that need improvements. I

admit that I committed some mistakes, but making mistakes is a natural way of learning, so in the following interview I
will try to not repeat them. I will try to make my voice louder. In addition, I will try to be braver so that I can talk
without difficulty and show the interviewer that I have confidence. Also, I will make sure to choose the right words of
what I mean to say. Moreover, when I will be asked about how I acted in a certain situation, I will give more practical
examples, and I will not give personal problems. Finally, I will not repeat myself, and talk faster.
