Question: What will happen if we change the size of the wings on the pop bottle rocket?
Hypothesis: If we make smaller then the rocket will fly farther because it doesn't catch as
much wind
Controlled Variables: 250 m of water, 3 wings, Triangle shape, standard size is 20x15, 125 m of
water in the little bottle, the kind of material we use for the wings.
Procedure: Set up a pop bottle rocket like you see in the picture, let the rocket launch and
measure how far it goes with the standard size of wings. Next change the size of wings to 7x3
cm, 3x7 cm, 15x7, 7x15,
Material: 2 2 Liter bottle, 2 20 oz. Bottle, duct tape, water, ML, yard stick, launcher, cardboard,
knife, ruler, marker, bag, and laptop
Conclusion: We conclude that the rocket with the 3 cm height and the 7 cm length flew the
longest distance. Our hypothesis was correct and that does surprise me, I would of made the
wings more exact cm's, and made them out of sturdier cardboard, and measured the equal
distance better.
