Chris Bland - CBT Design-Document Word

This design document outlines an eLearning course to teach clinicians how to increase efficiency when placing orders through the EMR. The course has two modules: locating patients and opening charts, and searching for and placing orders. It will be delivered as an online, self-paced course using text, audio, videos and interactive activities. The course aims to teach clinicians shortcuts for common tasks to reduce time spent navigating the EMR and increase attention to patient care. A learning assessment is included to test comprehension of efficiency concepts and skills.

RLO Enabling Objective

Identify two ways to find a patient in the hospital and two ways to open the
patients chart.

Learning Assessment
for Course

There will be a brief assessment a the end of the course that tests the learners understanding of the concepts taught in the eLearning. It will also allow the user to put those concepts into practice to demonstrate understanding.

Learning Assessment
for RLO

Assessment questions will include the following question types:

Multiple Choice question - Pick two ways to find a patient in the hospital
Pick multiple - Select the correct method(s) to open a patients chart (select
all that apply)

Instructional Delivery The course will be presented in an eLearning format that has guided clickmethod for Course
and-do activities as well as accompanying voice and recorded video. The
(overall)
video will be screen-recorded demonstration that shows the end user how to
complete the objectives while explaining purpose and intent. At the end of
this will be a brief assessment that tests the learner on the concepts and how
to put them into practice.

Narration Script
Slide 1
Hi! This is Christopher Bland, EMR Trainer at University Medical Center. In this lesson Ill be demonstrating the most efficient ways to locate
a patient and open a chart. Click next in the top right corner to get started.
Slide 2
Many clinical end users wonder about the fastest way to complete their work in the EMR. Its no secret that it takes time to see patients and
complete documentation. User efficiency means that you can consistently decrease time spent navigating the system while using shortcuts to
complete your documentation or to place orders.
Slide 3
What does all of this really mean? Happy end users and ultimately, happy patients! User efficiency reduces mouse clicks and saves time
while increasing a clinicians attention to patient care and satisfaction.
Slide 4
The first efficiency tool well review is the Patient Search option. Patient Search will look through every system list in the hospital or a
specific system list and find a patient using just the patients name. Proceed to the next slide to see how this is done.
Slide 5
As you know, the patient lists screen is where youll find every patient admitted to the hospital. There are so many of these to go through
that it can be time consuming. The patient search tool can help you with that. This will search the entire hospital in a few short steps. All
you need is the first and last name,or part of the name, of the patient. Keep in mind, you may see patients with the same or similar names
depending on how you searched. Make sure you select the right patient.
Click play to watch the video and follow the instructions beneath.
Slide 6
Now that youve found your patient, lets look at the two most efficient ways you can open a chart. The first option is to double-click on the
patients row with their name which opens the chart to Patient summary, which is the default chart activity. The second option is to double
click one of the chart activity icons to the far right of the patient row which jumps you right into that specific chart activity. For example, if
you want to go straight to viewing notes, double click the notes icon. The next two slides will demonstrate how this done. Click next to
proceed.

Slide 9
Remember, the faster you can move through the EMR the more you can save time and focus on patient care. Every user can be more efficient
with awareness of the tools available to them. Here are a few ways to know that youve increased efficiency when working in the EMR. On
the next three screens you will complete a brief assessment to confirm your understanding of the concepts in this lesson.
