"A STEP BACK"


FADE IN:
EXT. PARK BENCH

We first see a female teenager called SAM (17) on the park


bench in a neutral position, legs cross on her phone with
her earphones in. Her face shows a happy expression as she
types into her phone.
CUT TO:
EXT. PARK

Two male teenagers (17) both wearing casual clothes are


walking and having a conversation until they notice the
female teenager

DANIEL
Wait hold up you see that?
CUT TO:
EXT. PARK BENCH
We see the female teenager smile as she reads her messages
CUT TO:
EXT. PARK
PATEL
Yeah damnn lets go over and talk to her

DANIEL pulls an expression

DANIEL

We? Naah youll just embarrass us you cockbloPATEL


OK OK, fine rock paper scissors?
DANIEL
Lets go
DANIEL/PATEL
Rock Paper Scissors
DANIEL wins and pulls a smirk
PATEL
Jesus dont let this go to waste
DANIEL
Dont worry I wont

DANIEL sets off to talk to her but then shortly stops and
returns
PATEL
What happened?
DANIEL
Err yeah how do you talk to girls
PATEL laughs until he see that DANIEL is being serious
PATEL
You got to be joking me
DANIEL
No Im serious
PATEL
Ok ok so girls like a manly man
DANIEL
So just be manly?
PATEL
Yeah you know like walk chest out and talk about work and
stuff you know? Confident, Serious deep voice
DANIEL

Yep got it
DANIEL sets off towards SAM in an awkward manner
CUT TO:
EXT.PARK BENCH
DANIEL sits down next to the SAM
There is an awkward silence between the two the Female
Teenager looks DANIELs way quickly smiles then looks back
at her phone

DANIEL
[DEEP VOICE] Err... Hi name is Daniel Errr... Whats
yours?
SAM
Sam...
DANIEL
Oh really?[DEEP VOICE]err really? Is that short for something?
SAM
No...
DANIEL
[DEEP VOICE] errr... Ok

Do you like work?

SAM
Err I guess?
DANIEL
[DEEP VOICE] ok...
DANIEL glances towards PATEL for help
CUT TO:
EXT. PARK
We see PATEL running away
CUT TO:
EXT. PARK BENCH
DANIELs eyes goes wide pulls a face of bewilderment as he sees
PATEL run away
SAM

Err yeah I got to go..


SAM get up to leave
DANIEL
Wait wait err FUC-(DANIEL clicks his fingers)
CUT TO:
EXT. PARK
PATEL
You got to be joking me

DANIEL
No Im serious
DANIEL puts his hands to his mouth realising that he said that
before
PATEL
Ok Ok so girls like a manly man
DANIEL
No No No that wont work
PATEL
How do you know?
DANIEL
Trust me it wont
PATEL
Ok so some girls like a you know..
DANIEL
No I dont thats why Im asking you?
PATEL
You know a.. Badman.. you know a Roadman
DANIEL
Oh geez you for real?
PATEL
Yep so go out there and be road
PATEL gives DANIEL a little push

DANIEL walks like hes got a limp


Cuts to:
EXT. PARK BENCH

DANIEL sits down relaxed next to SAM his arm over her shoulder
DANIEL
Wagan pengting what you up to
SAM
Nothing much just texting
SAM looks uncomfortable
DANIEL
Ight I see you I see you who you texting
SAM
Just my friends
SAM edges further away from DANIEL
DANIEL notices this and looks to PATEL for help
CUTS TO:
EXT. PARK
PATEL is running away in the distance
CUTS TO:
EXT.

PARK BENCH
DANIEL watches as PATEL runs away
DANIEL
you got to be shitting me agaiSAM
I gotta go
SAM gets up to go
DANIEL
wait wait ahh fuc- [DANIEL clicks his fingers]
CUT TO:

EXT. PARK
PATEL

You got to be joking me


DANIEL
No Im not and trust me being a man or a roadman for that matter

PATEL gives a quizzical look
Err ok? What aboutDANIEL pulls a face

A series of shots are taken


CUTS TO:
EXT. PARK
DANIEL acting out different personas
SAM reacting to the Personas
PATEL running away repeatably (In one instance he falls over)
DANIEL repeating word fuc- before he clicks his fingers( In one
instance he forgets to click his fingers) SAM looks at him
weirdly
SAM
Huh what?
DANIEL looks at his fingers and realises he forgot to click his
fingers
DANIEL
Oh shii- (clicks his fingers)
CUTS TO:
EXT.PARK
PATEL
You got to be joking me
DANIEL
No Im serious Jesus anything you say wont help me

PATEL

Hey dont be mad at me, I didnt say anything? Why dont you just
be yourself?
DANIEL
Myself? Why on earth didnt I think of that rather than listening
to your stupid advice
DANIEL
Walks off toward the park bench
PATEL
What the FucCUTS TO:
EXT. PARK BENCH
DANIEL sits next to SAM but faces forward thinking about what
hes going to say
SAM glances towards DANIEL smiles and looks quickly away to her
phone
DANIEL turns to look at SAM

DANIEL
Hi
SAM
Hi
DANIEL
You know I saw you here by yourself looking gorgeous and you know
just had to say hi

SAM Smiles
SAM
Awww thanks
DANIEL
So.. What you listening to?
SAM
Oh Childish Gambino 3005

DANIEL
Ohh that song? How does it go again?

SAM
Err No matter what you say or what you doDANIEL
When Im alone I rather be with you

SAM does a small laugh


SAM
Omg So do you Sing?
DANIEL
Ahh you know sometimes What about you?
SAM
Haha yeah I do it at college
DANIEL
so what college do you go to?
SAM
Saints bridge and you?
DANIEL
Oaks its like 10 minutes away? I think
SAM
Ahh ok thats cool
SAM smiles
DANIEL
So.. I got this music thing going on you know and Im looking for
a girl who can sing... You up for it?

SAM
Yeah thatll be great urmm can I get your number?

DANIEL quickly looks over at PATEL quickly and hes still there

watching
DANIEL
Yeah of course .. Its 07859 66 4201 (nervous laugh) sorry I
didnt get your name
SAM
Im SAM
DANIEL
Well hello S Im DANIEL nice to meet you

They both give a laugh


SAM
You know I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship
DANIEL
Haha yeah... Wait what? Friendship?
SAM
Haha yeah

DANIEL loses his smile and

looks directly at the camera

DANIEL
Ohhh fuc- (clicks his fingers)
CUTS TO BLACK
