RRC Connection Setup Timers

The document discusses various timers used in the RRC connection setup process between the UE and eNB. T300 is started when the UE sends a connection request and is used to retransmit the message if no response is received within the timer duration. T301 is used similarly for connection reestablishment requests after radio link failure. T310 is started when radio link problems are detected and monitors for radio signal recovery before possible idle mode entry or reestablishment. T311 monitors for selection of a new cell before idle mode entry during the reconnection procedure. Additional timers T351, T352 and T353 monitor for response messages from the UE and call completion, dropping the call if responses are not received within the specified

RRC connection setup timers

After the eNB sent the RRC Connection setup, it wait for a specific time for the
UE to send RRC Connection Setup Complete message, what is that timer?

The T300 timer is started when the UE sends an RRCConnectionRequestmessage. If the

timer expires before the UE has received a response in the form of an
RRCConnectionSetupor Reject, the UE informs the higher layers and ends the connection
procedure.
The T301 timer is started when the UE sends an
RRCConnectionReestablishmentRequestfollowing a radio link failure. If the timer expires
before the UE has received an RRCConnectionRestablishmentor an
RRCConnectionReestablishmentReject, the UE enters Idle mode.
The T310 timer is started when Physical layer problems are detected whereby the UE
receives N310 out-of-sync indicators. The timer is stopped if N311 in-sync indicators are
received. If T310 expires, the UE either enters Idle mode or initiates the connection
reestablishment procedure, depending on whether security is activated.
The T311 timer is started when the RRC reconnection procedure is started. If the timer
expires before the selection of a suitable LTE (or other RAT) cell, the UE enters Idle mode.

T300 : Used for retransmissions of the RRC Connection Messages (2 sec)

N300 : Maximum retransmissions of RRC Connection Request messages (5)
T351 : Used for retransmissions of RRC Connection Setup message (700 msec)
N351 : Maximum number of retransmissions of RRC Connection Setup messages (2)
T352 : RRC Connection Setup response timer (3 sec); if the UE does not respond
with RRC Connection Setup Complete message within 3 seconds, call will be
taken down (Access failure).
T353 : Radio Bearer Setup response timer (7.8 sec); if the UE does not respond with
Radio Bearer Setup Complete message within 7.8 seconds, call will be taken
down (Access Failure if this is the first RB Setup message or Call Drop
otherwise)
Note that T300, N300 are specified in the 3GPP documents (not the actual values); the others are
ALU special designations.
