BBA Program
Internship Guidelines

What is Internship?
Internship is an agreement between a university and a organization that offers an opportunity for a student to
undertake a temporary work assignment in the organization which enables him/her to have a realistic exposure
to job and organizational conditions. It is called an earn while you learn program of training. It helps a student
bridge up the gap between classroom learning and actual job conditions. Eventually, internship prepares a
student for a prospective job. Since internship is defined as a full load of work for one semester, a student is not
usually allowed to register for a regular course while doing internship.
Internship Report
If you are registered in BUS-498, you are required to submit a report on your internship project to your faculty
supervisor by the end of the semester. The report consists of two parts: (a) the organization part and (b) the
project part. The organization part carries 25% weight of your grade, while the project part carries 75% of the
weight. The report should be written in a professional manner. It should be double-spaced and typed in a good
quality paper. It needs to be bound by a hard cover with your name and I.D. number on the cover page. There is
no minimum or maximum length of the report. However, the typical size of an internship report is about 50
pages. You must keep a copy of your report for your own use because the report you submit to your instructor
will not be returned within a year.
Internship Proposal
Before you begin work on the Project Part, you must obtain approval of your Project Proposal from your faculty
supervisor. The Project Proposal is an outline of your plan of action for the internship project. Typically, the
Project topic is assigned by the organization. However, if the organization does not give you a research topic or
asks you to do some work which does not involve research, you have to choose your own topic for research in
consultation with your faculty supervisor. Please remember that an Internship Proposal is required for the
Project Part only and should include the following:
1.
2.

3.
4.
5.

6.
7.

Introduction: Briefly describe what your internship project is about

Objectives: Describe what goals you would like to accomplish through your research. Do not write the
objectives of doing internship. Write the objectives of your doing the study. You should explain why
you have undertaken this project and what results you would expect from your study. The objectives
should focus on things you would like to examine and test by collecting and analyzing your data.
Significance of the Study: Discuss why the topic you have chosen is important. Explain its importance
to employers, employees, management practitioners, other stakeholders, and the society at large.
Expected Findings or Hypotheses
Methodology: In this section you should describe the data (primary/secondary) and the variables
(dependent/independent, continuous/categorical), data collection methods (telephone interview,
personal interview, mailed questionnaire, structured/unstructured questionnaire, published statistics),
sampling techniques, sample size (at least 120), data analysis techniques (graphical presentation,
frequency, percentage, crosstabs, t-test, z-test, chi-square analysis, ANOVA, correlation, regression,
etc.), data presentation techniques, and format of the report.
Limitations of the Study
Budget for the Study: (a) financial budget and (b) time budget. In the financial budget, you must show
the sources and amount of expenses for conducting the study. The time budget will show the amount of
time (days/weeks) you would like to spend in various stages of the study to complete it on time. Such
stages include preparation of project proposal, preparation of questionnaire, collection of data, analysis
of data, and preparation of report.

In the Organization Part of your report, you should include the following information.

threats

used to cope with them
An assessment of the companys current state of operations and future directions.

The Project Part

The Project Part of your report will include the things you discussed in your Project Proposal. In addition, you
have to present actual findings of your study and discuss them. In the Proposal, you described your plan for the
study. In the report, you have to describe what results you have obtained after you have completed the study.
