    Last Sunday, we read about Elijah and Jesus


    bringing back people who were dead, back to life.
    This week-end we will hear about spiritual death
    and how Jesus can bring us back to spiritual
    resurrection.
    David had committed adultery. He was blind to his
    own sin. The prophet Nathan made him
    understand his sin. He repented and God brought
    him back to spiritual life and growth.
    In the Gospel, Christ does the same with a woman
    of ill-repute. She was repentant and came to Jesus.
    Her many acts of repentance and love were the
    reasons for Jesus to resurrect her spiritually, and
    make her, a great follower of Christ.
    Saint Paul, who too was touched by Gods grace
    became one of the greatest Apostles of Christ. He
    was a murderer of Christians. Finally He became a
    Defender of Christ and the early Christians.
    We too are asked to change our lives around by
    repentance and acts of charity. It is not hard to be
    a Christian, because the Lord does not punish, but
    welcomes us back every time we repent.

    Born in Igolomia near Krakw as the eldest


    of four children in a wealthy family, he was
    christened Adam. During the 1864 revolt
    against Czar Alexander III, Adams wounds
    forced the amputation of his left leg.
    His great talent for painting led to studies in
    Warsaw, Munich and Paris. Adam returned to
    Krakw and became a Secular Franciscan. In
    1888 he took the name Albert when he
    founded the Brothers of the Third Order of
    Saint Francis, Servants to the Poor. They
    worked primarily with the homeless,
    depending completely on alms while serving
    the needy, regardless of age, religion or
    politics. A community of Albertine sisters
    was established later.
    Pope John Paul II beatified him in 1983 and
    canonized him six years later.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS
    THE PURCHASE OF ST GEORGES
    COMPLETED. We have successfully bought
    from the Episcopalian Church their property of
    2.77 acres of land at 511 Main Street. The cost
    was 2.65 million dollars. The Property has a
    small Church, a Rectory and an eight
    Classroom Early Learning Center. The Parish
    put in 500K, the ELC 210K and HFCA 1940K.
    There will be other closing and other costs
    which will be shared too.
    Fr SEBASTIANS FAREWELL HOMILY will
    be delivered on June 18/19 at ALL the Masses.
    There will be Hospitality Ministry Fellowship at
    all the Masses on Sunday June 19th, so we get
    a chance to meet and wish Father Sebastian
    Good-bye.
    THE SAMOAN COMMUNITY will join us for
    Mass on Saturday June 18th for Mass. They will
    then have a SEND-OFF Party for Father
    Sebastian at the Holy Family premises.
    PARISH COUNCIL/FINANCE COMMITTEE
    TO MEET on Monday June 20th for the final
    time with Father Sebastian. The Bulletin on
    June 26th will contain details/Minutes of the
    Meeting and a FINANCIAL REPORT. We will
    also discuss WELCMING Our new Pastor and
    the Priest who will be in residence, as soon as
    we know when they will actually arrive. Father
    Sebastian will leave the Parish premises on
    June 27th morning.

    Have you ever


    thought about how
    sins are forgiven?
    How do we go
    from sinful to justified?
    Think of the word
    justified
    as
    made to be just
    and fair. Because
    we have sometimes been unjust
    in our dealings
    with others, Jesus, the Perfectly Just One, took our sins
    to the cross. The injustices
    died with him there.
    Justice is a legal word. But
    as this Sunday's second
    reading points out, it's not
    the law that forgives us;
    we're not justified (i.e., we
    don't become fair, loving and
    just) by the law but through
    faith in Christ.

    Jesus explains it in the Gospel reading. The sinful woman who bathed Jesus with
    her tears was forgiven,
    changed
    and
    justified
    through her great love for
    him. Love is what breaks us away from the power of
    sin. Love is what makes us behave justly.

    Any of us who genuinely want to be loving but sin anyway are usually unaware, at that moment, that our behavior is hurting anyone. We don't sin out of deliberate
    malice, yet we have behaved unjustly.
    We sin because we take our eyes off of Jesus. We're
    reacting to current or past stimuli that's tempting us to
    behave unjustly. But if we pause long enough to pray

    and reconnect to Jesus, we can take


    control. We can choose to act in
    love.
    When we make love
    our highest priority,
    temptations lose their
    power. Caring about
    others distracts us
    from the stimuli that
    causes our sinful reactions. And as soon as
    we discover that we've
    caused pain through
    sin, we're motivated
    by love to undo the
    damage as best as we can. We enter into the justice of God.
    When we love others as Jesus loves
    them, our faith has become our salvation. As it was for the woman in
    the Gospel, Jesus says to us: "Now
    you can go in peace."

    Reflect & Discuss:


    1. Recall an unloving behavior or
    attitude you had recently. What
    were you reacting to?
    2. Dig deeper. What's the root of
    that reaction? For example: Did
    anyone hurt you the same way?
    Forgive him/her. Are you afraid?
    Trust God instead. If necessary,
    talk to a spiritual director or family counselor to help you identify
    the root cause. The truth will set
    you free to love as Jesus loves!
    3. Tell the story of a sin you overcame. What did you do to overcome its control of you?
    4. How did the love of Jesus empower you?
