Rules of Ph. D. Admission

NITUK offers PhD programs in various subjects starting in 2014. Candidates are selected based on having a master's degree in the subject area with at least a 6.75 GPA or a bachelor's with 6.75 GPA and 55% marks in their master's along with a desirable GATE, NET, or SET score. Shortlisted candidates take a written test and interview, requiring 40% on the written to qualify for the interview. If selected, candidates are offered provisional admission as part-time or full-time students. Within 3 months, candidates must identify a research area and supervisor and present a synopsis to the Research Progress Committee for confirmation of registration.

Rules of Ph. D.

Admission
NITUK has started offering Ph.D. Programme from the Academic year 2014-15 in the area of
Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Humanities (Sociology
& Economics). The candidates are shortlisted on the basis of the following qualifications: a
Masters degree in the concerned or an allied subject with a minimum of 1st class (C.P.I or
C.G.P.A. greater than 6.75 on a 10 point scale) or a minimum of 1st class (C.P.I or C.G.P.A.
greater than 6.75 on a 10 point scale) at Bachelors level with at least 55% marks at Masters
level & desirable GATE score/NET/SET. The shortlisted candidates on the basis of merit are
called for written test followed by interview. For qualifying the written test, the candidates are
required to secure 40% marks in the same. After qualifying the written test, the candidates are
called for Interview on the same day. After qualifying the Interview, the eligible candidates are
offered provisional admission on Part time or Full time basis depending on the interest of the
candidate. After provisional admission to the Ph.D. Programme each candidate is allotted a
Supervisor. They are required to identify the area of research and have to prepare a synopsis in
consultation with the supervisor in a span of 3 months time. They have to present the proposed
work in pre-registration Seminar in the presence of Research Progress Committee (RPC) in the
month of June/December. On recommendation of RPC, the Registration of candidate will be
confirmed and will be given Registration w.e.f. 1st January/ july by paying registration fees Rs.
20000/- to Institute. The Registration will be valid for the period of 6 years. The candidate is
required to pay the registration fees Rs. 15,000/- in each semester to renew his/her registration.
The Institute scholars are awarded fellowship as per norms. To avail Institute fellowship the
candidate should be GATE/NET/SET qualified, otherwise, a consolated fellowship of Rs.
10000/- are awarded to the candidate for Ph.D full time programme. No Part Time Candidates
are awarded Institute fellowship.
