Conclusion
Today I completed an interesting experiment involving Alka-Seltzer tablets. The steps
were rather simple because you had to time how quick an Alka-Seltzer tablet fizzes according to
the temperature of water it was in. My hypothesis stated that, If I drop an Alka-Seltzer into a
glass of water, then I believe hot water will make it fizz the quickest, and I was correct. The
reason being is because the cold water has less energy and that way the bicarbonate ions and
the hydrogen ions (these are the two reactants of this chemical reaction) dont meet as quickly.
However, the deal with hot water is that it carries more energy and then that way both reactants
meet quicker. Moving forward, the lab went by smoothly and I didnt mess up. The steps were
to set up a glass of water with 250 mL with the temperature of water you are using, then you
ready a timer (suggested to do this with a helper), and start the timer as soon as you drop the
tablet in and stop the time right when the tablet quits fizzing. Those steps had to be repeated
for each type of temperature of water (cold tap water, ice cold water, and hot tap water). Finally,
there isnt any way I would really modify this experiment because if you tried to time different
temperatures of water at the same time it might get a little confusing.
