Dear Friends;
One of my favorite Bible stories is about a man with
a strange nameMephibosheth (see 2 Samuel 9).
At a time and place in which an ascending king
would hunt down and execute all of his
predecessors family members so as to protect his
throne, King David instead shows great kindness to
the crippled grandson of former King Saul. Rather
than destroying Mephibosheth, David searches him
out so that he can provide for his well-being. He
does this to honor a covenant he had entered into
previously with Mephibosheths father, Jonathan. It
is a wonderful story of grace.

The Bible is very clear about the fact that we are all
Mephiboshethscrippled spiritually, emotionally,
relationally, and in many other ways. But Gods
kindness and provision has been shown to us in the
person of Jesus. Trusting in His humble birth,
servant-life, sacrificial death and powerful
resurrection is all we need to live in wholeness with
God. Gods faithfulness to His covenant is an even
greater story of grace than Davids. And though we
do not deserve it, we can look forward to a restored
relationship with God and be welcomed at His table
for the sake of Jesus Christ. This is the main
message of scripture, and the Good News which is
to be shared with a broken world.

It is this sense of vulnerabilitythis deep awareness of our needthat is so appealing to me about

Searchlight Ministries. We see ourselves, in the words of D.T. Niles, as beggars telling other
beggars where to find bread. What this means is that you and I can feel free to invite anyone we
know to a Searchlight function (worship, small group, childrens or youth event, Bible Study, etc.),
regardless of their closeness to or distance from Jesus, because we are convinced they will be
received, welcomed and shown the grace of God while they are among us.
It is the working out of this great grace of God which continues to draw people closer and deeper
into fellowship with one another at Searchlight, for it is here that God is turning our weaknesses
into strengths, our brokenness into giftedness, our being humbled before God into servant hearts
for others, our extreme neediness into a passion for prayer, and our acceptance by Him and others
into a great deal of celebration and joy as we share and grow together as a church family. If you
are already a part of it, we are so glad you are here; if not, we welcome you to consider it.
Finally, I sincerely hope that you will take the time to get to know all of us Mephibosheths listed
on the following pages. For even though we answer to different names and each one of us is a
unique creation of God, we still all share a common bondwe have found (and are continuing to
find) healing for our brokenness in Jesus, the Christ; and we long to have others join us in
experiencing this in their own lives as well.

Our passion is helping people, especially university students, meet
their Savior and experience spiritual freedom. We desire to train and
equip them to become mature, fruitful disciples who understand their
position in Christ. University students will shape the futureas leaders,
professionals, politicians, pastors, mothers and fathers. If we can reach
them with the gospel now, they will have a profound influence on the
world for Jesus.
In Peru, many students and young professionals have a strong
desire to learn English. As we share our lives and build relationships,
our ministry will also involve teaching English using lessons with a
biblical message. This offers an incredible opportunity to reach people
who normally would not hear the gospel.
We covet your prayers and partnership with us in what God is doing
in Peru. Together, we can influence the campus and reach future
leaders.
