Digital Citizenship basically conceptualises the norms of appropriate,


responsible use of technology. A study that was initially designed for parents
and teachers in order to understand their children and students, but due to the
growth in usage technology by any and everyone, digital citizenship became a
tool for everyone using technology. It consists of 9 core elements which are :

Electronic participation in society and the availability of


technology to any and everyone.

Buying and selling of goods electronically, this is to


ensure that the users of technology know which
goods and services are legitimate and which arent.
Electronic exchange of information. Due to the
expanding ways of technological communications e.g.
Emails, IMs etc. Some people need to be taught certain
online behaviours.
The process of teaching and learning about technology
and its use. For the sake of keeping up with new
technologies a constant for of learning has to take
place.
Standards of conduct or procedure. This simply means
learning the rules and policies of online behaviour and
abiding to them.

DIGITAL LAW

Responsibility for electronical actions and deeds. This


addresses the ethics of technology in a society.

The freedoms extended to everyone in a digital world.


These are basic rights extended to every digital
citizen but this means that everyone should take
responsibility for their online activity.

Physical and psychological well-being in the techno


world. The digital citizen needs to know how to protect
themselves from inherent dangers of technology.

DIGITAL SECURITY

Electronic precautions to guarantee safety. Learning


the use of digital security is vital as there are cyber
criminal just as much there are real criminals.
