Semi Conductor One

Group 5's task was on semiconductors, conductors, and insulators. The group members were Abhishek Chib, Jaspreet Singh, Harsimran Singh, and Sarabpreet Singh. Semiconductors have electrical conductivity between conductors and insulators, being highly conductive at high temperatures but nearly insulating at low temperatures. They are used in microprocessors, transistors, and LEDs. Intrinsic semiconductors are pure and have equal numbers of holes and electrons, while extrinsic semiconductors have impurities added. Conductors easily allow charge carriers like electrons to move through with an applied voltage, like copper and steel. Insulators do not allow internal electric charges

SEMI CONDUCTORS
CONDUCTORS
INSULATORS

MATERIAL PROPERTIES
SEMI
CONDUCTO
RS

Any class of solids whose

electrical conductivity is between
that of a conductor and that of an
insulator in being nearly great as
that of metal at high temperatures
and nearly absent at low
temperatures.

Eg:- micro-processer chips,

transistors, L.E.D etc.

TYPES OF SEMI- CONDUCTORS

INTRINSIC
SEMICONDUCTOR
S:
In simple words, an intrinsic semiconductor is one which is made up
of a pure semi-conductor material.
In more technical terminology, it
can be stated that an intrinsic semiconductor is one where the no of
holes is equal to number of
electrons in the conduction band.
Eg:- silicon and germanium etc.

SEMICONDUCTORS
:

These are semi-conductors in

which the pure state of the semiconductor material is deliberately
diluted by adding very minute
quantities of impurities.

To be more specific, the

impurities are known as dopants
or doping agents.

Eg:-silicon crystal , Aluminium,

boron etc.

CONDUCTORS

Electrical

conductor is
substance in which
electrical charge
carriers usually
electrons move easily
from atom to atom
with application of
voltage is called
conductor.
Eg:- cooper , steel ,

INSULATORS
An electrical insulator is

a material whose
internal electric
charges do not flow
freely, and therefore
make it nearly
impossible to conduct
an electric current
under the influence of
an electric field.

Eg:-

rubber , wood ,

Difference Between Conductor and

Insulator:Conductors are good at conducting heat and/or
electricity.
Insulators are not good at conducting heat and/or
electricity.
The best conductors have many free carriers, such as
electrons.
The best insulators do not have many free carriers.
