Do An Internship
(fieldwork, practicum, externships, coop)

Any type of service that allows you to practice for your profession and
has tangible goals and outcomes will increase your experience level.

Usually there is a set number or hours, specific project, and/or specific

learning objective with this type of experience.

In addition to gaining the experience you will have a more experienced

professional giving you feedback and you will be able to document
tangible results from what you have done.

Get Involved In Your Community

Community organizations, religious institutions, educational institutions, and
health care facilities often have established service opportunities.

Even those who do not have established programs are usually willing to accept
assistance on various projects.

Explain to them that you are a current student and/or recent grad and that you
want to help them while practicing the skills you’ve learned in school. Make sure
they are clear you are not asking for a job.

Also seek out cultural organizations that focus on cultures different that yours.
These may allow your to practice your skills and gain experience interacting in
others cultures.
