This document discusses entity-relationship models in software engineering. It defines an entity as something that exists in itself, either concretely or abstractly. Examples of entities given include students. The document notes that entity-relationship models are used to describe data or information aspects of a business domain. It also provides examples of different types of character entity references in HTML, including those for ISO 8859-1 characters, symbols, mathematical symbols, Greek letters, and internationalization characters. The purpose of character entity references is to represent these characters across different encodings.

Introduction :Insoftware engineering, anentity

relationship model(ER model) is a

data modelfor describing the data or
information aspects of a business domain or
its process requirements, in an abstract way
that lends itself to ultimately being
implemented in adatabasesuch as a
relational database. The main components of
ER models areentities(things) and the
relationships that can exist among them.

Entity :Definition:Anentityis something thatexistsin itself,

actually or potentially, concretely or
abstractly, physically or not. It need not be of
material existence. In particular,abstractions
andlegal fictionsare usually regarded as
entities. In general, there is also no
presumption that an entity isanimate.

characters.(e.g., for bidirectional text).

Character entity references for ISO 8859-1

characters: The character entity references in this section produce

characters whose numeric equivalents should already be

supported by conforming HTML 2.0 user agents.

Character entity references for symbols,

mathematical symbols, and Greek letters: The character entity references in this section produce

characters that may be represented by glyphs in the widely

available Adobe Symbol font, including Greek characters,
various bracketing symbols, and a selection of mathematical
operators such as gradient, product, and summation symbols .

for escaping markup-significant characters (these

are the same as those in HTML 2.0 and 3.2).
