PCB Workshop

The two-day PCB workshop began with an introduction to various PCB technologies and software used in the industry. On the first day, attendees learned about the industry standard PCB design software Altium Designer, how to prepare schematics, generate layouts, and implement a demo radio transmitter project involving importing components, connecting them, and generating output files. The second day focused on actual PCB fabrication processes like using toner transfer to put layouts on FR4 boards and a demonstration of chemical etching, which students then performed with guidance. At the end, students received a process handout for future reference.

PCB Workshop

Day 1:
The workshop commenced with a brief introduction about the various
technologies used in the industry. The external faculty briefed about the
current scenarios and the process used in the industry. The pros and cons of
the different software used in the industry also along with some of the open
source variants were discussed
After the introductory session the actual briefing on the industry standard
PCB Designer, Altium Designer software was given. The various commands
and controls regarding the using the software was taught to the attendees.
The general idea regarding the phases of pcb designing from the schematic
preparation to the lay out generation was give.
After this briefing a demo project regarding the radio transmitter was
implemented. The topics covered included were component importing,
placing and connection making. Generation of geber files and netlist from
the schematic was also discussed and demonstrated.

Date 2:
The day two was dedicated to the actual pcb fabrication process.
Toner transfer process was used for transferring the layout to the FR4 PCB
boards. Later the process of chemical etching was demonstrated. The
students were asked to perform the same under the special guidance and
any difficulties regarding the same was addressed.
After the completion of the course of seminar the students were give a
process tour guid In the form of hand out for future reference.
