Lesson 3 Artisticabilities
Lesson 3 Artisticabilities
Lesson 3 Artisticabilities
Title:
Repetition of Form and Texture
2/24/16
Lesson Idea and
Relevance: What are you
going to teach and why is this
lesson of importance to your
students? How is it relevant to
students of this age and
background?
Outcomes - Students will be able to...What key knowledge and skills will students acquire as a result of this unit? ...Art history and
culture; expressive features and characteristics of art; art materials, tools, and techniques? What should they eventually be able to do as a
result of such knowledge and skill? ...Compare and contrast art work; analyze sketches?
art
Students will create exploration samples displaying rhythm and movement
through repetition.
Students will construct books out of exploration samples and handmade paper.
Students know and apply elements of art, principles of design, and sensory and
expressive features of visual arts.
Students know and apply visual arts materials, tools, techniques, and
processes.
Pre-assessment:
How will you help the students know where the unit is going and what is expected? Help the teacher know where the
students are coming from (prior knowledge, interests)?
First we will show students the materials we will be working with (household objects) and ask
them if they can think of any ways we could use them to make art. We will then show an
example of a completed texture book and demonstrate some ways with which we can use
household objects as stamps to create shape and texture.
Household Items: String, leaves, fabric, stamps, cardboard, tape, etc.
Motivation:
How will you hook all students and hold their interest?
Ideation:
Procedures:
How is the lesson organized to maximize initial and sustained engagement as well as effective learning? Provide opportunities
to rethink and revise their understandings and work? Allow students to evaluate their work and its implications? Include literacy and
numeracy?
Present students with the full range of materials (i.e Household objects, pre-cut stamps, fabric,
string, etc.)
Students will choose the materials based on individual interest and attraction to the shape and
texture
Paints and paper will be provided on tables, so students will be able to get right to work
Pre-cut stamps will be at one station, fibrous materials will be at a second station, non-porous
materials and ready-mades at a third station, and a paper-making station will be at a fourth station and will be
available for students to work at while their other pieces dry (the paper they make will be used for book
covers and collagraphs next class)
After explaining the nature station and the synthetic station, students will be able to move
throughout the stations, discovering new objects and textures with each, the idea being that the
differentiation of materials at each station will prolong the discovery experience
Students will go through stations and will complete no less than six explorations for their
books
We will transition by gathering back together (catch and release tactic) and demonstrate how
construct their own books
With our help, students will tie their books together with string
We will wrap up class by allowing students to share their work and talk about their
discoveries.
Clean up!
Materials and Resources: What is needed to complete the learning plan? List materials and resources in a bulleted format.
Paper scraps, water, blender, pans, liquid starch (optional - if they want to
write on it)
Acrylic paint
Pre-cut stamps
Household/ found objects for stamping
string
fabric
cardboard
tape
leafs
String for book binding
Mod Podge or sealer for collagraphs
Preparation and Safety: What do you need to prepare for this experience? What safety issues need to be addressed? List steps of
preparation and safety in a bulleted format.
We will set up the paper station (Teachers will operate blenders) and set up the materials at the
other stations
Accommodations:
How is the lesson tailored (personalized) to the different needs, interests, and abilities of learners? ...Access
(Resources and/or Process) and Expression (Products and/or Performance)?
There are enough educators and assistants to provide individualized attention to students who
need it
Enough materials are available that each students will be able to express themselves freely
according to their individual interest
This lesson plan gives students the freedom to make decisions on what colors or techniques
they prefer to use, which will help them remain interested in their project.
